Competing against nearly 700 talented teams from universities across the globe, this accomplishment is a testament to his dedication, skill, and excellence in physics. Excited to share that three faculty members from the School of Applied Sciences and Technology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have been recognized with the prestigious 'Dean's Award' for Research Excellence!
Congratulations to Associate Professor Dr. Ifte Khairul Amin (EEE), Dr Mohammed Mastabur Rahman (CEP), and Associate Professor Shanta Saha (IPE) for their outstanding contributions to research. Their dedication to research publications, presentations, citations, and supervision sets a high standard for academic excellence.

Bangladesh Agricultural University lecturer Abul Bashar made history by being awarded the prestigious IPCC prize for his innovative work on lowering greenhouse gas emissions in shrimp farms. Supported by Danish funding and conducted with Copenhagen University, Bashar’s study used advanced genetic analysis to identify microbes that both produce and break down harmful gases like methane. His study focuses on modifying agricultural practices to make shrimp farming more environmentally-friendly by lowering emissions. Prince Albert of Monaco gave the award, which recognized Bashar's pioneering work, at the 17th Planetary Health Awards.

Sanger Prize Competition 2025:

The Sanger Institute Prize is a fully funded 3-month internship with a research group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. The award includes travel, living, and research expenses.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:

-Be from a low- or middle-income country

-Undergraduate students studying a genomics-related course (for example, biological sciences, bioinformatics, medicine, or veterinary science). Applicants awaiting graduation are also eligible to apply.

-Show interest in genomics research through courses or extracurricular activities.

-Be fluent in English (no certificate is needed).

-Be at least 18 years old.

The applicants must have secured two academic references. Only those who fulfill all the criteria will be promoted to the next stage.

Application Process:

Stage 1a: Online Application

Open: November 2024

Deadline: 5 PM (UK time), 10 January 2025

The form consists of four sections:

~Personal Details

Expression of Interest (EoI): A 400–500 word statement that tells about your scientific interests, genomics knowledge, and why you are applying.

~Referee Details

CV: A two-page document will present the genomics-related studies and experiences.

Ensure that your submissions are accurate, as they cannot be edited. Save copies of your application and EoI for reference. Confirmation emails will be sent upon submission.

Stage 1b: References The referees will be immediately communicated with right after submission to fill the reference form by 5 PM (UK time), 17 January 2025. The applicants must make sure that the references are received on time.

Stage 2: Essay The chosen ones will research a particular genomics topic and write an essay on it. The essays are usually due approximately one month after the selection process is over. The winners are expected to be announced by May 2025.

Internship Details

The winner will be paid for his or her ticket, visa, hotel, and living expenses in full. They will choose one of the labs that have available openings and the mentor. They can also schedule the internship within the year of selection.

The GIS and Remote Sensing Lab of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), are organizing the International Conference on GIS and Remote Sensing Applications: Mapping Tomorrow's World, scheduled for the 16th and 17th of November 2024.

This conference aims to bring together professionals, researchers, and students to discuss the latest advancements and applications in GIS and remote sensing. The event will feature oral and poster presentations, as well as competitions in photography, videography/timelapse, and infographics.
