📌What does a medical physicist do?

Medical physicists work in health care and apply their knowledge of physics to the development and use of medical radiation treatments, devices, and technologies. They make sure the equipment is operating correctly and are often involved directly with a patient’s diagnosis and treatment, as well as with radiation safety and product development.

Medical physicists often consult with their physician colleagues to offer advice and resources to solve problems that occur when using radiation therapy or nuclear medicine.

📌Scope of practice:

Medical physicists work with doctors, nurses, technicians, and patients. They have three main components of work: clinical service and consultation, research and development, and teaching.

📌A medical physicist might:

> Ensure equipment is safe, effective, and working properly

To become certified as a medical physicist, you must complete a residency or postdoctoral program of one or two years at a hospital and pass the certification examination by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP).

What Does a Do?

Biomedical engineers design prosthetic limbs and artificial organs, as well as the material that is used to manufacture them. They develop the software that's used to run medical equipment. Scientists are decades away from regrowing missing human limbs, but Murugan, age 31, thinks she'll live to see it.
"The biomedical engineering aspect is actually making these new advancements to kind of understand and fix biology. And I think that integration is going to make this happen in our lifetime," she said.

"বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং" বাংলাদেশে ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং সেক্টর এ বেশ নতুন একটি নাম।অনেকটা নতুন বলেই অনেকে এই সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত ভাবে জানেন না।অথচ বিভিন্ন উন্নত দেশে এটি অত্যন্ত প্রগতিশীল একটি বিষয়।

• BME কি?

বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং হল সেই সাবজেক্ট যা মেডিক্যাল সাইন্স ও ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং এর মধ্যে যে বিস্তর ফারাক তা দূর করেছে।বলা হয়ে থাকে যেখানে ডাক্তারদের সামর্থ্য শেষ সেখানেই বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের কাজ শুরু। বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের ছাড়া কখনোই চিকিৎসা বাবস্থার উন্নয়ন সম্ভব নয়।

•বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের কাজ কি?/বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের ক্ষেত্র কি কি?

অনেকের ভুল ধারণা আছে যে বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের কাজ হল শুধু চিকিৎসা ক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত যন্ত্রের ব্যবহার ও তার রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ। কিন্তু এটি হল খুব খুব ক্ষুদ্র একটি ক্ষেত্র। কিন্তু সত্যিকারে এটি বিস্তৃত একটি শাখা।জেনেটিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং থেকে হিউম্যান রোবটিক্স, সব বায়োমেডিকেলের অংশ।বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের মূল লক্ষ্য হল চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞান কে আরো এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া। যে যন্ত্র-সরঞ্জাম গুলো দরকার হয় ওই গুলার আরও উন্নত ও তৈরি করা থেকে শুরু করে মাবন ক্ষেত্রে যে প্রতিবন্ধকতা আছে, তা দূর করে তাদেরকে স্বাভাবিক জীবনে নিয়ে আসা। যেমন ECG Machine, X Ray Machine,,MRI Machine,CT Scan machine, PET, SPECT থেকে শুরু করে কৃত্রিম হৃদপিণ্ড, পেসমেকার, কৃত্রিম বৃক্ক, কৃত্রিম লেন্স, নিউরো হ্যান্ড আবিস্কার সহ কোন দৌড়বিদ কিভাবে দৌড়ালে সবচেয়ে দ্রুত দৌড়াতে পারবেন বা ইনসুলিন কিভাবে আরও উন্নত করা যায় এরকম হাজারটা সমস্যার উন্নত সমাধান দিয়ে বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং আমাদের জীবন করেছে আরও উন্নত। সহজ ভাষায় বলতে গেলে ডাক্তারের হাতে থাকা ইনজেকশন বা গলায় থাকা স্টেথোস্কোপ টাও বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার এর অবদান।

এছাড়াও বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের কাজের উদাহরন কার্ডিয়াক পেসমেকার,কৃত্রিম কিডনি, রক্ত অক্সিজেনেটর, হৃৎপিন্ড, রোগীদের নিরীক্ষণ থেরাপিউটিক ব্যবহারের জন্য ডিজাইন মেশীন ও ডিভাইস। কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তার উপর ভিত্তি করে ক্লিনিকাল সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণের কৌশল,CT scan, PET scan, MRI বা Ultrasound ইমেজিং পদ্ধতিতে ডিজাইন, উন্নয়ন এবং গবেষণা,নিউরোমডুলেশন ডিভাইস, অস্থি চিকিৎসা মেরামত, এমনকি স্টেম সেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং এর মত কাজ ও হচ্ছে হরহামেশাই।

•চাকরির বাজার কেমন?

বাংলাদেশে সাবজেক্ট টা নতুন হওয়ায় এটার চাকরীর বাজার এখন অন্যান্য সাবজেক্টের মতো অতটা বেশী না হলেও চাহিদা বেশী আর এই সাবজেক্টে কম ছাত্র থাকার জন্য চাকরী ভালো সুযোগ আছে। অনেক ভালো ভালো হাসপাতালে এখন অনেক ভালো বেতনে বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার নিয়োগ দেয়া হয়।সরকারি হাসপাতাল গুলোতে Biomedical Engineer নিয়োগের বেপারে সরকার কাজ করছে।

বাংলাদেশে আছে এরকম বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের জন্য কয়েকটা কোম্পানির নাম দেয়া হল:

এছাড়া হবিগঞ্জে নতুন আরেকটি কোম্পানি হচ্ছে,এর সাথে দেশের আরো কোম্পানিগুলা তো আছেই।

US Money news এর তথ্য অনুযায়ী ২০১৯ তে USA তে বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের গড় বার্ষিক বেতন $91,410।বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং হচ্ছে ৫ম বেস্ট ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং যাদের job growth ২৩% যা অন্যান্য যে কোন চাকরীর থেকে বেশি।এছাড়াও Germany,Canada, United Kingdom সহ অনেক দেশে বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের চাহিদা রয়েছে।
তবে, শর্ত প্রযোজ্য। যথাযথ যোগ্য হলেই তোমাকে আমেরিকা বা অন্যান্যরা চাকরি দেবে।

তবে এতটুকু নিঃসন্দেহে বলতে পারি যে, এতো সম্ভাবনাময় একটি সাবজেক্ট এ পড়লে তোমাকে তোমার ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে খুব একটা চিন্তা করতে হবে না। তোমার ভবিষ্যৎ উজ্জ্বল হবেই ইনশাল্লাহ।

• গবেষণার সুযোগ কতটা?

অবশ্যই, এই সাবজেক্টে গবেষণার অনেক বেশী সুযোগ আছে। হয়তো তুমি ক্যান্সার বা কোন ভাইরাস নিয়ে গবেষণাও করতে পারবে। হয়তো বা মানবদেহের জন্য অকল্পনীয় কিছু বানিয়েও ফেলতে পারবে। আরো অনেক মেডিকেল ইকুইপমেন্ট আছে যেগুলো আরও আপগ্রেডে করা একজন বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারের ই কাজ। আপনার জন্য গবেষণার হাজারটা রাস্তা খোলা আছে এখানে।আর উপরে উল্লেখ করা সেক্টরগুলোতে এই গবেষণার অফুরন্ত সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।

• বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিংয়ে কতটুকু Biology পড়তে হয়?

Biology বলতে শুধু Human antomy and physiology পড়তে হয়।তবে মেডিকেল এর মত ওতোটা ব্যাপক ভাবে পড়ানো হয়না...

বাংলাদেশ এ বায়োমেডিকেল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ২০১৪ সালে KUET ও MIST তে ও ২০১৫ সালে BUET,২০১৬ সালে JUST ও ২০১৭ সালে IU এবং সর্বশেস CUET এ ২০২০ সালে তে Undergraduate খোলা হয়েছে।আর বেসরকারী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এর মধ্যে Gono University তে এই সাবজেক্ট টা পড়ানো হয়।
