During the lifetime of the Prophet (S), no major earthquake is recorded. However, during the caliphate of the second Caliph, ĘŋUmar ibn al-Khattab (Ra), two major earthquakes occurred. By then, 17 or 18 years had passed since the Hijrah. One deep night, a terrifying earthquake began. Cracks started appearing in the mud walls. In fear, the residents of Madinah rushed out of their homes and fled to the Masjid an-Nabawi.

When that earthquake finally stopped, Amir al-Mu’minin ĘŋUmar (ra) said, “This has happened because of your misdeeds. If another earthquake occurs, I will no longer stay in Madinah with you.”
A couple of years later, another earthquake struck the region of Sham (greater Syria). The governor of Sham at that time was Abu ĘŋUbaydah ibn al-Jarraá¸Ĩ. He said, “This is a test from Allah. Turn back to Him in repentance.”

During the era of the Caliphate, two smaller earthquakes also occurred one shortly before the martyrdom of ĘŋUmar (ra), and another during the caliphate of ĘŋUthman (ra). After the two major earthquakes, the ruler of half the world, ĘŋUmar (ra), took even stricter measures in certain matters-he launched a campaign against usury, instructed that excessive dowries be reduced, and placed government officials under thorough accountability.

Analyzing the texts of the hadith shows that the increase of human sin and corruption is the reason for the coming of such calamities. Even after such a great warning in our time, people will again become unjust sleeping through Fajr, continuing to earn haram income, trampling on the rights of others, engaging in filth for political interest. The moneylender involved in usury will not stop his business.

The Qur’an declares: “Indeed, man is extremely unjust and ungrateful.”

Being pleased with Allah the Almighty as one’s Lord is not just something to say verbally; it is something that must be carried within the heart. When this belief truly settles in the heart, a servant remains content with Allah in times of ease and in times of hardship. But our condition is often such that as soon as we face difficulties, we begin to blame Allah. Yet every situation a person faces is either the result of his own deeds or a test from Allah. We forget that Allah will certainly test us, and only those who are patient and seek His help will succeed. Allah wants to see who is truly pleased with Him as their Lord.

Sometimes a person’s happiness distracts him from Allah, and sometimes a person becomes displeased with Allah when he falls into hardship.
Therefore, the one who is genuinely pleased and happy with Allah as his Lord and Sustainer remains content with Allah in every situation. He thinks, “Whatever condition I am in, my Lord has chosen it for my benefit. So being content with it is my only option.”

Similarly, being pleased with Islam as one’s way of life is not merely a verbal claim. Whatever rules and laws Islam has, whether we understand their wisdom or not, we must believe that they are for our own good. Islam wishes well for everyone. It does not desire that anyone suffers or remains distressed.

Allah says, “In retribution for murder there is life.”
Whether this makes sense to someone or not, it is the truth. Only intelligent people understand that through this law many lives are saved because people will think twice before committing murder. Who among us is free from the fear of death? Before understanding this wisdom, one must first be pleased with Allah as their Lord.

Allah has prescribed the punishment of cutting the hand for theft. Wherever Islamic law has set rules and prohibitions, believing that they are for one’s own benefit is part of accepting Islam wholeheartedly.

Every ruling that Allah has given in the Qur’an is for the welfare of mankind.

Whoever is truly pleased with the religion of Islam believes that:
“My understanding is limited, but Allah’s knowledge is infinite. Whatever Islamic law commands is logical and beneficial.”

For example, if someone becomes impure (needs purification), the rulings are: he must rinse his mouth, wash his face and hands, wipe his head, and wash his feet (perform wudu). Asking why one must do these acts and demanding their logical explanation is not what it means to be pleased with Islam as one’s religion. The wisdom behind it is known to Allah. I may understand it, or I may not.

There are many rulings in Shariah that we did not understand before, but through practice their wisdom became clear later. Whether something seems logical to us or not, Islam is still the truth.

Only such a person truly tastes the sweetness of faith.

After this comes being pleased with Muhammad (S) as the Messengerâ€Ļ

It is not possible to understand the Qur’an without the explanations of Muhammadur Rasulullah (īˇē). Allah revealed the Qur’an and placed Muhammad (īˇē) before us as the living example of its teachings.

Sending blessings (Durud/Salat) upon the Prophet Muhammad (īˇē) is essential, because he is a mercy for us. For my own benefit and protection from harm, reading Durud is necessary. When the name of the Prophet (īˇē) is mentioned in a gathering, reading Durud the first time is wajib, and the subsequent times are mustahabb.

We must consider Durud as an important, indispensable, and essential practice in our life. If we want any deed to be accepted by Allah, we should accompany it with Durud.

When someone sends Durud to the Prophet (īˇē) once, Allah sends ten mercies upon that person, forgives ten sins, and raises him ten ranks in the Hereafter.

Sending Salat and Salam upon the Messenger (īˇē):

The best form of Durud is the one narrated from Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (ØąØļ؊ اŲ„Ų„Ų‡ ØšŲ†Ų‡) Durud Ibrahim, found in Sahih al-Bukhari.

If Durud or Salam is recited near the Prophet’s (īˇē) Rawdah, he hears it with his own ears for the Prophet (īˇē) is alive in his blessed grave in a manner befitting him.

And when Salam is sent from a distance, it is conveyed to him. He does not need to come physically; he is not obligated to appear. Allah has appointed angels whose duty is to deliver every Durud and Salam to the Prophet (īˇē).

Therefore, whenever we have the chance, we should sit and recite Durud. If nothing else comes to mind, read Durud. Even in the examination hall when something slips from memory reciting Durud brings Allah’s mercy, and Satan cannot make a person forget.

Durud Sharif is an essential act for my life.

“Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad,”
“Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam” these are short forms of Durud.

While walking or moving around, whenever possible, we should recite Durud frequently.

Making dua for the Prophet (īˇē) brings mercy into my life. The more I honor, respect, and value the Messenger (īˇē), the more Allah increases my own honor.

We must make Durud a constant part of our life. No deed is accepted without Durud.

But Durud must be recited correctly keeping the meaning intact and avoiding distortion.
For example, dragging the words unnecessarily, adding melody where there is no elongation, or stretching letters incorrectly changes the meaning.

Photos from SMC Bones Bank's post 04/10/2025

Alhamdulillah — after a long-awaited period, the much-anticipated Prayer Room for Muslim female students at Satkhira Medical College has finally been inaugurated.

SMC Bones Bank , as part of its Da’wah Project, expresses profound gratitude to the Almighty for granting the opportunity to accomplish this noble initiative.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the honorable Principal, Professor Dr. Ruhul Quddus, for his sincere and proactive efforts in transforming the students’ request into reality within a remarkably short time.

May Allah Ta’ala graciously reward all those who contributed to this virtuous endeavor. Ameen.
