It’s a piece of upsetting news that National Professor Anisuzzaman has passed away. That an octogenarian like him will depart this life any time is not unexpected. But the death of a man of such stature from coronavirus contagion must have good reason to frustrate hundreds of his friends and fans who wanted to attend his funeral, see the deceased icon’s face for the last time and show respect. It is sad to see the National Professor’s coffin carried by the PPE- clad people.

This, however, doesn’t take away from his achievements. Professor Anisuzzaman, popularly known as 'ANIS SIR' was an asset to the nation. For the pro-liberation people of Bangladesh, his achievements are something to be proud of. He played the role of a guardian angel in all our national crises. We have seen the Honourable Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina) herself to stand in awe of the Grand Old Man of learning. May he rest in peace!
