1996-1997. January 2018, the department of languages was abolished by an order and Urdu as a department came into being. Now the department conducts Honours, Masters, M.Phil, Ph.D and Certificate programmed successfully. The Department has a glorious history of academic and literary achievements. It has the honour of having the scholars of international repute who have produced outstanding and trend-setting literary works. Currently the department has eight teachers and around two hundred students. VISION
The vision of this programmed is to educate students in a way that promotes effective knowledge of Urdu whereby to understand the classic, modern and actual texts in the language, and to explore and use practical sociocultural insights that go with any human language. To make the vision come true, the curriculum seeks to cover the Urdu language and its literature in various genres, the history of the Mughal and British periods and their effects on Urdu as a whole. MISSION
Effectively preparing students for career and the academic world is the mission of the programmed. Urdu graduates will serve domestically and globally by nurturing a rich culture of linguistic diversity in the academia and other professions. They will work towards tapping resources in the fields of language, literature, and common historical processes nationally and internationally. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Urdu Language and Literature students, upon graduation, are given the title of Urdu Language and Literature Philologist. Some of them will maintain an academic life as teachers and researchers. Some of them can have the opportunity to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, state archives, libraries, embassies, visual and print media, tourism agencies, among many others. LIBRARY FACILITIES
The Department of Urdu has its own seminar library near to the Departmental office. The students can use the library by sitting inside. They are allowed to take books outside the seminar library. In addition to that, residential halls of the University have their separate libraries for the students of respective halls. EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The Department of Urdu encourages its students to interact with each other and to engage in extra curriculum activities. The students of different years organize cultural functions in different occasions. The Department organizes an orientation program cm reception for incoming fresher regularly. ANNUAL PICNIC
The Department organizes at least one annual picnic, which is a festive outing for students, teachers and staff of the Department. STUDY TOUR
The Department occasionally organizes study tour within Bangladesh or Abroad for the students of Final Year. SPORTS
