Johor Port Bhd, part of MMC Group, achieved a record monthly throughput of 102,324 TEUs in August 2024, surpassing the previous record of 99,039 TEUs set in July 2019.

In the first eight months of 2024, the port handled 698,914 TEUs, a 15.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth reflects higher trade activity in Johor and enhanced port services.

Johor Port CEO Md Derick Basir noted that the port managed an average of 1,700 external hauliers daily and achieved a yard utilization rate of up to 120%. He highlighted that these records demonstrate Johor Port’s capacity to handle large volumes and support local importers, exporters, and industries in Southern Malaysia.

Dzulfariqh Abdul Manap, Vice-President of the Association of Malaysian Hauliers, praised the port’s efficient management, stating that despite the increased volume and number of hauliers, most trucks were served in under 45 minutes.

The Shipping Association Malaysia (SAM), Johor Chapter, also commended Johor Port for its performance in August, noting that the port managed operations well despite global supply chain disruptions. They highlighted the port’s short vessel waiting times and its ability to offer Berth on Arrival (BoA) for most vessels.

Looking ahead, Johor Port plans to invest over RM1 billion in capital expenditures over the next five years to enhance infrastructure, acquire new equipment, and automate port operations.
