Exploring Science Through Inquiry and Discovery! 🔬
On 7 June 2026, our Grade 1 learners had an exciting opportunity to visit the school laboratory as part of their Unit of Inquiry, “Materials can be transformed into different forms to meet people’s needs.”
During the visit, learners observed a series of engaging scientific experiments that brought their classroom learning to life. The hands-on demonstrations sparked curiosity, encouraged inquiry, and helped our young learners develop a deeper understanding of how materials can change and be used in different ways to meet human needs.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Md. Ariful Islam, Mr. Abdullah Al Amin, and Ms. Lutfa Khatun for conducting such an inspiring and interactive learning experience. Their dedication and expertise created a meaningful opportunity for learners to explore scientific concepts through observation and discussion.
At AKMIS, we believe that every learner matters. We nurture curiosity, inspire exploration, and provide authentic learning experiences that encourage learners to grow, think critically, and make meaningful connections with the world around them.
This enriching experience empowered our learners to become inquisitive thinkers, active explorers, and reflective learners. By engaging with real-life scientific observations, they strengthened their understanding, asked thoughtful questions, and developed the skills and attitudes needed to become lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.

Did you know that the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed to nurture the whole child while inspiring a lifelong love of learning?
At Abdul Kadir Molla International School (AKMIS), our PYP learners engage in meaningful, inquiry-based experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, reflection, and action. Rather than learning subjects in isolation, students explore significant concepts and real-world issues through transdisciplinary learning, making connections across disciplines and developing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
The PYP is guided by six transdisciplinary themes:
• Who We Are
• Where We Are in Place and Time
• How We Express Ourselves
• How the World Works
• How We Organize Ourselves
• Sharing the Planet
Through these themes, learners develop essential knowledge, conceptual understanding, Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, and the confidence to take meaningful action in their communities.
As an IB World School, AKMIS is committed to providing a high-quality, internationally recognized education that empowers students to become knowledgeable, caring, and responsible global citizens.
Together, we nurture curious minds, compassionate hearts, and confident learners ready to shape a better future.

What does meaningful learning look like in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)?
At the heart of the PYP is Agency—the belief that learners are active participants in their own learning journey. Agency is nurtured through three interconnected elements: Voice, Choice, and Ownership.
When learners have opportunities to express their ideas, make informed choices, and take responsibility for their learning, they become more engaged, confident, and motivated to take meaningful action.
The PYP learning community is built upon a dynamic partnership between:
• The Learner – developing curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
• Learning & Teaching – creating engaging, inquiry-driven experiences that inspire understanding and action.
• The Learning Community – fostering collaboration among students, teachers, families, and the wider community.
Together, these elements create a trusted, transformational, and future-focused learning environment where every child is empowered to thrive.
At Abdul Kadir Molla International School (AKMIS), we embrace the IB philosophy of learner agency, ensuring that our students are not only prepared for the future but are empowered to help shape it.

At Abdul Kadir Molla International School (AKMIS), we place a high value on collaboration, professional learning, and the sharing of best practices. We believe that when educators learn from one another, they strengthen not only their own professional practice but also the learning experiences of the students they serve.
Our PYP team recently had the privilege of participating in the PYP Job-Alike Session 2026, hosted by Aga Khan Academy Dhaka under the theme “Connecting Minds, Cultivating Practice.” The event brought together educators from IB World Schools across Bangladesh, providing a valuable platform for professional dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of innovative practices that continue to strengthen teaching and learning within the Primary Years Programme.
A total of 25 educators from AKMIS participated in the event, engaging in meaningful discussions, collaborative learning experiences, and reflective conversations with fellow IB practitioners. Such opportunities reinforce our commitment to continuous improvement and educational excellence.
We were particularly proud to contribute to the professional learning of the wider PYP community through two sessions facilitated by members of the AKMIS team:
The Power of Assessment for Learning – facilitated by Ms. Asnaha Farheen, exploring how assessment can be intentionally used to support teaching, enhance student agency, and improve learning outcomes.
Inquiry in Action: Inductive Approaches for Student-Led PYP Exhibition – facilitated by Ms. Fahmida Khan, Ms. Umme Mahbuba, and Mr. Faisal Amin Rabbi, focusing on empowering students to take ownership of their inquiry journeys.
A special highlight of the event was the unveiling of the IB PYP Coordinators’ Network Bangladesh logo and mission by Ms. Asnaha Farheen, Network Chair of the IB PYP Coordinators’ Network Bangladesh. During her address, she congratulated Aga Khan Academy Dhaka for its leadership in bringing together the PYP community and creating a meaningful space for educators to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka team for organizing such a successful and impactful event. Together, we continue to strengthen the PYP community in Bangladesh and advance our shared commitment to high-quality, inquiry-based education.
