The Department of English at Ranada Prasad Shaha University (RPSU) is hosting a seminar on "Career Orientation" for outgoing students and alumni from the English departments of RPSU, Government Tularam College, and Narayanganj College. The event will take place on July 20, 2026, at the scenic RPSU campus. In anticipation of the event, Mr. Anisur Rahman, Assistant Professor of English at RPSU, visited Tularam College on July 15, 2026, to extend a formal invitation. The college Principal, Professor Md. Shahidul Islam, alongside faculty members from various departments, warmly received him and expressed keen enthusiasm for their students' participation. Representatives from both institutions also agreed to leverage this seminar as a foundation for future collaborative initiatives and academic exchange programs.

AI detectors may be doing exactly what schools say they are trying to prevent: punishing the wrong students.

In this paper, the authors tested seven widely used GPT detectors on writing by native and non-native English writers.

The result is disturbing: the detectors were much better at recognizing native English writing as human, but they falsely flagged a large portion of non-native English writing as AI-generated.

In other words, a student may be suspected of using ChatGPT simply because their English is simpler, more predictable, or less idiomatic.

That is not academic integrity.

That is linguistic profiling dressed up as technology.

What makes this even more troubling is that the bias could be reduced when ChatGPT was used to make the non-native essays sound more like native-speaker writing.

So we arrive at a strange situation: non-native English writers may need AI to avoid being falsely accused of using AI.

The same paper also shows that AI-generated text can often bypass detectors with simple rewriting prompts. So the tools can miss polished AI writing while flagging real human writing from multilingual students.

This is why I keep saying AI detection is not the same as plagiarism detection.

Detection scores are not proof. They are signals, and sometimes very weak and biased ones.

Before schools use these tools to discipline students, block opportunities, or damage trust, they need to ask a harder question:

Are we catching cheating, or are we punishing students for not writing like native English speakers?

Day 3: Poetry Recitation Competition: William Shakespeare

On the occasion of William Shakespeare's birth anniversary, the Department of English, R. P. Shaha University, organized a special intra-departmental poetry recitaion competition to celebrate his enduring contribution to world literature. The competition was held on 23rd of April this year.

The department extends its sincere appreciation to the faculty panel: Sukanya Mandal madam, Sazid Kamal Santo sir, and Faria Ferdous Cornalia madam, for successfully judging the competition.
