Hundred days of Dr.Md.Yunus.

Today is the Hundredth day of the accession of Interim Govt led by Dr. Md.Yunus who came to power on 8th Aug, 2024 through Student-people uprising. Though it is not a benchmark for evaluating a new govt within this short time. But it is a custom and convention that when a new govt gets in power, it declares its success only hiding failures. However, the Govt of Dr.Yunus is not an elected one rather it is a transitional govt which is called Interim or Interior Govt. So , there is no possibility for him to proclaim the success and failure of his Govt's 100 days to date.

To speak truly, 100 days are not enough for evaluation of an Interim Govt though the ordinary people begin to expect something viable and visible. But I personally believe that this is not the sufficient time to customize everything overnight. What I believe is that it is high time we observed their activities patiently and let them do whatever they want to do to bring back everything to order.

To speak frankly, it's not my intention to fact-check the success and failure rate of Dr.Yunus' Govt. I as a victim of circumstances want to focus on revolution on 5th August of 2024 led by different strata of Students, people and professions.

To speak honestly, the people of this country have already got different experiences of revolt and struggle from 1952 to 1971. But the struggle this time is quite different from all the previous ones. It has got a new dimension and new precedence in the realm of politics .

To speak really, the anti - discrimination student movement has set up a new history. They also set up new culture of changing over the power. The Students have shown us how to drive out a fascist govt, how to vanquish an autocratic or automatic govt and the success of revolution is, no doubt, a kind of beauty but it is a 'terrible beauty' because it involves huge and heavy loss of innocent lives and properties including Abu Sayeed and Mugdha.

To speak incidentally, there is a close similarity between our revolution in August 2024 and the Irish revolution in September 1916. The Irish people shedded blood and lost many lives for their freedom. The modern poet W. B. Yeats of Ireland wrote a poem on Irish revolution named " Easter 1916" where the poet evaluated the sacrifices of the Irish revolutionists against The English Rule by using two lines :---
" All changed, changed utterly :
A terrible beauty is born ".

To speak fairly, we are now free from fascism and have got freedom for the second time after Liberation war which we may call it a beauty. But there is Abu Sayeed's blood in this beauty, there is Mugdha's blood in this beauty,there are lot more bloods in this beauty. So, we too have got "A terrible beauty " like the Irish.

To speak firmly,Since this is a dearly govt, people from all classes have a lot of expectations from it. They are eagerly awaiting to see how this govt can handle or remove our pains and wounds and how this govt can repair or remake the damage of country.

To speak finally, I can sum up my discourse that everybody should support the Interim Govt so that Dr. Yunus can make people's dream come true and reach his target in the end.

To speak conclusively, after necessary reformations the Interim govt should do something as model and guidelines for the next govt to follow for serving the people so that no fascist or no autocratic govt can come to power again. The last but not the least the Interim govt should fulfill their commitments before handing over the power to the next elected govt.

শেক্সপিয়ার(১৫৬৪-১৬১৬) বনাম রবীন্দ্রনাথ(১৮৬১-১৯৪১) ।

কলেজ বা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যায়ে এমন শিক্ষার্থী খুব কমই আছে যারা উপরোক্ত দুই জনের নাম শুনে নাই । তবে আমাদের অনেকেরই একটি ভ্রান্ত ধারণা(misconception)আছে যে শেক্সপিয়ারের লেখা শুধু ইংরেজি বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা পড়বে আর রবীন্দ্রনাথের লেখা পড়বে শুধু বাংলা বিভাগের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা ।
এ কেমন কথা? আমি মনে করি একথা একদমই ঠিক না । সকল বিভাগের ছাত্র, শিক্ষকের শেক্সপিয়ারের লেখা পড়া উচিত তা না হলে বিশেষ জ্ঞান থেকে বঞ্চিত হবে । বাংলার ছাত্ররা শেক্সপিয়ারের লেখা পড়বে এবং ইংরেজির ছাত্ররা রবীন্দ্রনাথের লেখা পড়বে এটাই হল স্বাভাবিক ও স্বতঃসিদ্ধ নিয়ম । কারণ দুই জন দুই মেরুর দুই দিকপাল । কেহ কারো পরিপূরক নয় বরং দ্বিমাত্রিক জ্ঞানের বিশাল ও অফুরন্ত জ্ঞান ভাণ্ডার ।
সাধারণের যে ধারণা শেক্সপিয়রের জীবদ্দশায় এটা যদি সে জানতে পারতো, তাহলে বোধহয় সে নিজের চুল-দাঁড়ি নিজেই টেনে ছিড়তো। কারণ শেক্সপিয়ার বিশেষ কোন শ্রেণি বা সম্প্রদায় বা নির্দিষ্ট কোন ভৌগলিক সীমারেখার জন্য লেখেন নাই । তিনি লিখেছেন সকল মানুষ, সকল ধর্ম,বর্ণ ও সকল দেশের জন্য । শেক্সপিয়রের শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব এখানে যে তিনি পাঁচশো বছর পূর্বে যে কথা বলে গেছেন, বর্তমানেও এর কোন ব্যত্যয় বা বেমানান হয় নাই এবং আরও পাঁচশো বছর পরেও এর ব্যতিক্রম বা পরিবর্তন হবে বলে মনে হয় না । এইজন্য তিনি কালজয়ী ও সার্বজনীন ( Ageless and Universal ) কবি ও নাট্যকার ।

একইভাবে নোবেল জয়ী (Nobel laureate) বিশ্বকবি রবীন্দ্রনাথকে যদি ইংরেজির ছাত্ররা না পড়ে, তাহলে জীবন-যুদ্ধ, মানবতা, যৌতুক ও বাল্য বিবাহের অভিশাপ, সামাজিক ব্যধি, অসঙ্গতি, কুসংস্কার , বৈষম্য, ও তৎকালিন প্রেক্ষাপট কিভাবে জানবে ? ১৯১৩সালে "গীতাঞ্জলি" লিখে তিনি এশিয়ার প্রথম ব্যক্তি হিসেবে নোবেল পুরস্কার পেলেন । কি আছে এতে যার জন্য পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠ নোবেল পুরস্কার তাকে দেয়া হল? নিশ্চয়ই এর মধ্যে শিক্ষণীয় ও অনুকরণীয় ভালো কিছু আছে । তাই "গীতাঞ্জলী" পড়ে সবার জানা দরকার । রবীন্দ্রনাথের "দেনাপাওনা " না পড়লে যৌতুকের অভিশাপ কেমন করে বুঝবে? গল্পগুচ্ছ না পড়লে বাল্য বিবাহের প্রতিক্রিয়া কিভাবে জানবে? "দেনাপাওনা" নাটকে কন্যা দায়গ্রস্ত পিতা নরসুন্দর তার মেয়ে নিরুপমার জন্য বহু খোঁজাখুজি করেও যখন মানানসই পাত্র পাচ্ছিলেন না, ঠিক পরক্ষণেই রায়বাহাদুর সাহেবের ছেলে ডেপুটি ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট এর সাথে দশ হাজার টাকা যৌতুকের শর্ত মেনে নিয়ে বিবাহের দিনক্ষণ ঠিক করেন যদিও নরসুন্দর বাবুর দশ হাজার টাকা দেওয়ার মত ক্ষমতা ছিল না । বিভিন্ন ভাবে ধার-দেনার মাধ্যমে জোগাড় করে বিবাহের দিন হাজার তিনেক টাকা পরিশোধ করলেও, বিবাহের পরের দিন থেকেই নিরুকে কিন্তু প্রতিনিয়ত এর বঞ্চনা আর অপবাদ সইতে হয় । নিরুর সুখের কথা চিন্তা করে পাঁচ ছেলেকে না জানিয়ে বাড়ি বিক্রি করে এবং এটা যাতে পরিবারের কেউ বুঝতে না পারে সেই জন্য আবার সেই বাড়ি ভাড়া নিয়ে নরসুন্দর বাবু যৌতুকের অবশিষ্ট টাকা যখন পরিশোধ করতে গেলেন, ততক্ষণে শাশুড়ির কটাক্ষ আর অপমান সইতে না পেরে অসুস্থ্য ও যৌতুকের বলি হয়ে নিরু পৃথিবী থেকেই বিদায় নিলেন।
সত্যি কথা বলতে, রবীন্দ্রনাথের কবিপ্রতিভা এই স্বল্প পরিসরে তুলে ধরা এক রকম অসাধ্য। যদিও বিদ্যালয়ের আনুষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা তিনি লাভ করেননি তবুও সাহিত্যের বিচিত্র ক্ষেত্রে তাঁর পদচারণা এক বিস্ময়কর ব্যাপার ।তিনি ছিলেন প্রকৃত অর্থেই অসামান্য প্রতিভাধর ব্যক্তি ।বাল্যকাল থেকেই তাঁর কবিপ্রতিভার প্রকাশ পায় ।মাত্র পনেরো বছর বয়সে তাঁর বনফুল কাব্য প্রকাশিত হয় । মূলত একক সাধনায় বাংলা ভাষা ও সাহিত্য সকল শাখায় দ্রুত উন্নতি লাভ করে এবং বিশ্ব দরবারে বাংলা ভাষা গৌরবোজ্জ্বল আসন লাভ করে । তিনি একাধারে কবি, সাহিত্যিক, দার্শনিক, শিক্ষাবিদ, অভিনেতা ও সুরকার । কাব্য, উপন্যাস, নাটক, প্রবন্ধ, ছোটগল্প, গান ইত্যাদি সাহিত্যের সকল শাখায় তাঁর অবদান অনস্বীকার্য ।তাঁর অজস্র রচনার মধ্যে মানসী, সোনার তরী, চিত্রা, বলাকা,পুনশ্চ, চোখের বালি,গোরা,ঘরে বাইরে, যোগাযোগ, শেষের কবিতা, বিসর্জন, ডাকঘর, রক্তকরবী ইত্যাদি বিশেষ ভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য । অতএব সাহিত্যের ছাত্র মানেই এই গুলি পড়া উচিত অন্যথায় সাহিত্যের জ্ঞান অর্জনে অপূর্ণতা থেকে যাবে ।

এবার বলি শেক্সপিয়ার কথা । তিনি সাহিত্যের আর এক বিশ্বের বিস্ময় । সারা বিশ্বে খুব কম দেশই আছে যেখানে স্কুল-কলেজ-ভার্সিটিতে শেক্সপিয়রের নাটক বা কাব্যগ্রন্থ অধ্যয়ন বা পড়ানো হয় না কারণ তাঁর নাটক গুলি সারা বিশ্বের মানুষের কথাই বলে । সারা পৃথিবী কতই না বৈচিত্র্য এবং এর মানুষ গুলির আচার-আচরণ, কথাবার্তা, প্রেম ভালোবাসা, আবেগ অনুভূতি, ধর্ম কর্ম, আরও কত বিচিত্র ! শেক্সপিয়ার কিন্তু ঠিক ই এত বৈচিত্র্যের মধ্যেও সমান্তরাল ও সার্বজনীন ভাবে প্রত্যেকের প্রাত্যহিক জীবনের মনের কথাই তুলে ধরেছেন।আর ঠিক এই জন্যই শেক্সপিয়ার অনন্য ও অসাধারণ । শেক্সপিয়ার ৩৭টি কালজয়ী নাটক লিখেছেন ।তন্মধ্যে ১০টি ট্রাজেডি, ১৭টি কমেডি, ৪টি ট্রাজি-কমেডি, ২টি ডার্ক কমেডি, ১০টি ঐতিহাসিক নাটক ও ১৫৪টি সনেট ইংরেজি সাহিত্যের এক বিরাট ও বিস্ময়কর সংযোজন ।

সত্যি কথা বলতে কি শেক্সপিয়রের নাটক গুলি শুধু বিনোদন ও পঠনের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ নয়, বরং পাঠকের জন্য তার নাটকের একটি ম্যাসেজ বা মরাল থাকে, যা কিনা সর্বস্তরের ছাত্র ছাত্রীদের জন্য জানা দরকার । তাঁর নাটকের সংলাপগুলি এত জীবন ঘনিষ্ঠ, সময়োপযোগী শাশ্বত, ও চিরন্তন যে এই নাটক গুলি পাঠ করলে পাঠকদের মধ্যে কিছু জীবন দক্ষতা (life skills), মূল্যবোধ দক্ষতা( Soft skills)ও বিশ্লেষণ দক্ষতা (Critical thinking)সৃষ্টি হয় এবং যে গুলি সকল দেশের, সকল ধর্মের মানুষের ক্ষেত্রে সমানভাবে প্রযোজ্য । যেমন:
" All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players, They have their exits and their entrances "------- (As You like It). অর্থাৎ পৃথিবীটা একটি রঙ্গমেঞ্চর মত আর তার মানুষ গুলি কেউ অভিনেতা কেউ অভিনেত্রীর মত। কিছুক্ষণ দৌড়ঝাঁপ করে পর্দার আড়ালে মিলে যায় । আবার তিনি মানুষের জীবন সম্পর্কে বাস্তবিক ও দার্শনিক তত্ত্ব দিয়েছেন। তিনি বলেছেন মানুষের জীবন ক্ষণস্থায়ী জাস্ট একটা প্রদীপের মত যাহা স্বল্প সময়ের জন্য জ্বলে তারপর আবার নিভে যায় ।
Life is like a candle which burns and blazes for a brief period of time and then goes out ---(Macbeth).
তিনি আরও বলেন
" Life is a tale
Told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing " --------( Macbeth).
অর্থাৎ মানুষের জীবনটাই যেন খেলনা, অর্থহীন!
আবার কিছু সংলাপ আছে যে গুলি প্রবাদ- প্রবচন হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।যেমন :
" Cowards die many times before their death ,
The valiant never taste of death but once. "-------- (Julius Caesar).
এবং তিনি প্রবাদের মাধ্যমে সতর্ক করেছেন কেউ যেন বাহ্যিক চাকচিক্যে আকৃষ্ট না হয় । যেমন:
"All that glitters is not gold ;
Often have you heard that told."--------( The Merchant of Venice ).
তিনি উপদেশ মূলক অনেক সংলাপ দিয়েছেন। যেমন কোন মহান ও মহৎ কাজ করার লক্ষ্যে ছোটখাটো ভুলত্রুটি করা যায় ।
"To do a great right, do a little wrong. And curb this cruel devil of his will " ----- (The Merchant of Venice).
শেক্সপিয়ার বেশ কিছু সংলাপ লিখেছেন তরুণ প্রজন্মকে উৎসাহ দিয়ে যেমন:
"Be not afraid of greatness, Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust" . --- ( Twelfth Night).
ব্যক্তি জীবনে আমরা অনেক সময় সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণে নানা দ্বিধা- দ্বন্দ্বে কিংকর্তব্যবিমূঢ় হয়ে পরি। তখন কি করা উচিত আর কি করা অনুচিত সে ব্যাপারে দিক্বিদিক হয়ে যাই। এই ব্যাপারটি শেক্সপিয়ার তার বিখ্যাত নাটক হ্যামলেট এ তুলে ধরেছেন " To be, or not to be,--that is the question; whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer, The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles."------ (Hamlet).
আমাদের চারিপাশে মুখোশধারী বহু প্রতারক, বিশ্বাসঘাতক ও ষড়যন্ত্রকারী আছে যার কারণে নিষ্পাপ কিছু জীবন ঝরে পড়ে । ওথেলো নাটকে ইয়াগোর মাধ্যমে সেটি তুলে ধরা হয়েছে । ইয়াগো ষড়যন্ত্রমুলক ও উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিত হয়ে নাটকের নায়ক-নায়িকা ওথেলো ও দেসদিমনার মধ্যে ভুল বোঝাবুঝি সৃষ্টি করেন । আসলে আমাদের প্রতিটা সমাজে এমন অনেক ইয়াগো আছে ।ইয়াগো মারাত্মক ধুর্ত ও চতুর ভিলেন। ইয়াগো নিজেই এটা স্বীকার করেছেন ।
" I am not what I am " ---- (Othello). অর্থাৎ আমাকে যেমন দেখো , আমি তেমন না। ইয়াগো এবার মন্তব্য করেন, মানুষের আসল চেহারাটা যদি বাইরের চেহারার মতো হতো ।
If men's real appearance was as good as outward appearance !------ (Othello).
একজন নারী ও একজন পুরুষ বিবাহের আগে ও পরে কেমন পরিবর্তন হয় সে সম্পর্কে ধারণা দিয়েছেন । ঋতু চক্রের তিনটি মাস এপ্রিল, মে ও ডিসেম্বরের বৈশিষ্ট্য দিয়ে বুঝিয়েছেন।
" Men are April when they woo, December when they wed. Maids are May when they are maids, but the sky changes when they are wives "--- (As You like It). মানুষ যখন প্রেম করে, তখন সে এপ্রিল এর মত উষ্ণ থাকে আর বিবাহের পরে ডিসেম্বরের মত শীতল থাকে । মেয়েরা বিয়ের আগে মে মাসের মতো উৎফুল্ল থাকে আর বিবাহের পরে আকাশসম পরিবর্তন ঘটে ।
প্রেম ভালোবাসা সম্পর্কে তার আরও কিছু সরস সংলাপ আছে যেমন:
" Love is blind and lovers can not see the pretty follies that themselves commit " ----(The Merchant of Venice).
"Love is merely madness and I tell you, deserves as well a dark house and a whip as madmen do " -(As You like It). বস্তুত, বর্তমান ও অতীতের প্রেম ভালোবাসায় কিছু পরিবর্তন লক্ষ্য করা যায় যাহা এই সংলাপ থেকেই সহজেই বুঝা যায় ।
Boys' love of present age is not in heart but in the eyes which changes overnight .-----(Romeo and Juliet).
আবার চিরন্তন ও গভীর ভালোবাসার কথাও তাঁর কবিতার মধ্যে পাওয়া যায়. যেমন:
"So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee". (Sonnet # 18).
আবার আরেক জায়গায় তিনি বলেছেন কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে বিনিময় ছাড়া ভালোবাসা পাওয়া যায় না এমনকি বাবা ও সন্তানদের মধ্যেও এটা লক্ষ্য করা যায় ।রাজা লিয়ার যখন তাঁর তিন কন্যার কাছ থেকে জানতে চান যে তারা তাদের বাবাকে কেমন ভালোবাসেন ? ১ম ও ২য় কন্যা কোন কিছু পাওয়ার আশায় সুগার কোটেড প্রতি উত্তরে রাজা লিয়ার খুশি হলেও ৩য় কন্যার স্পষ্ট ও সত্যি কারের প্রতিউত্তরে খুশি হতে পারেননি।
" I love your majesty, According to my bond, no more, nor less ".------ (king Lear).

শেক্সপিয়রের নাটকে দেশের প্রচলিত আইনের শাসনের যে চর্চা বা প্রয়োগ নাই তার ইঙ্গিত আছে । তিনি কোন কোন দেশের আইন কানুনকে কাকতাড়ুয়ার সাথে তুলনা করেছেন । ক্ষেতের ফসল রক্ষা করার জন্য জমির মাঝখানে কাকতাড়ুয়া স্থাপন করা হয় পাখিদের ভয় দেখানোর জন্য। কিছু দিন পর পাখিরা যখন বুঝতে পারে যে এর কোন ক্ষমতা নাই তখন তারা এই কাকতাড়ুয়ার উপর বসেই নির্ভয়ে ক্ষেতের ধান খেয়ে চলে যায় । যেমন:
"we must not make a scarecrow of the law,
Setting it up to fear the birds of prey,------ (Measure for Measure. ).
শেক্সপিয়ারের ধর্মীয় জ্ঞান অত্যন্ত পরিপক্ক ও পর্যাপ্ত । ইসলাম ধর্মের বিধি বিধান ও অনুশাসন সম্পর্কে তার অসামান্য ও অসাধারণ জ্ঞান গরিমা আছে ।পবিত্র কোরআনের সূরা আলাম নাশরাহ্ এর দুটি আয়াত সম্বন্ধে আমরা অনেকেই জানি যেমন :
" ফাইন্না মা'আল 'উসরি ইউসরান। ইন্না ম'আল 'উসরি ইউসরা"-। (অর্থাৎ নিশ্চয় কষ্টের সাথেই স্বস্তি, নিশ্চয় আছে কষ্টের সাথে স্বস্তি ।) মনে হয় এই সূরার মর্মার্থ উপলব্ধি করেই তিনি লিখে ফেললেন:
"Sweet are the uses of adversity,
Which like the toad, ugly and venomous,
Wears yet a precious jewels in his head;"
(As You Like It). (অর্থাৎ দুঃখ বা কষ্টের মধ্যেও আশীর্বাদ আছে । ব্যাঙ কুৎসিত ও বিষাক্ত কিন্তু এর মাথায় মূল্যবান মনি থাকে যা দিয়ে জীবন রক্ষাকারী ঔষধ তৈরি হয় ।)
তার আরও কিছু ইসলামী চিন্তা চেতনার প্রকাশ পায় যখন সে মৃত্যু সম্পর্কে বলেছেন । তিনি বলেন জীবদ্দশায় অনেকের অনেক পরিচয় থাকে যেমন কেউ ভিআইপি কেউ সিআইপি ,কেউ আমির কেউ ফকির । মৃত্যুর পরে কিন্তু সবার পরিচয় এক ও অভিন্ন সেটা হল ডেড বডি বা লাশ এবং কবরে মন্ত্রী-মিনিস্টার, জজ-ব্যারিস্টার, ডাক্তার, মোক্তার সবাই সমান। । Death is the great equaliser of men-emperors and beggars alike. There is no basic difference between a King and a beggar, because the ultimate reality is death, when all are equalised in the graves. ------( Hamlet)।
এছাড়া শেক্সপিয়ারের আরও অসংখ্য বাস্তবিক ও জীবনমুখী সংলাপ আছে যার কোন শেষ নাই ।তবে আমার লেখা কিন্তু শেষ ।
সুহৃদ পাঠক আমাকে যেন ভুল বুঝবেন না । আমার লেখার উদ্দেশ্য কিন্তু রবীন্দ্রনাথ বড় না শেক্সপিয়ার বড় সেটা নয়। উদ্দেশ্য হলো এই কিংবদন্তী লেখকদ্বয়ের লেখায় যেন অনুপ্রাণিত হয়। সবাইকে ধন্যবাদ ।

Today at 12 PM A 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered less than 50 miles from "Kathmandu, Nepal" rocked with devastating force, toppling homes, temples and historic buildings and leaving. Last news updates already 1,457 people dead...

I am extremely shocked with the incident of earthquake that took place in Nepal today, its tragic aftermath.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
