King Midas and the Golden Touch

Once there was a king named Midas. He was very greedy and loved gold more than anything. Even though he already had a lot of gold, he wanted more. He thought, “If I could turn everything I touch into gold, I would be the happiest man in the world.” One day, a wise god heard his wish and granted it. After some time, King Midas was sitting under an apple tree in his garden. A ripe apple fell near him. It looked so tasty that he wanted to eat it. But as soon as he touched it, the apple turned into gold. The king was very happy. He shouted, “Now I have the golden touch!” From that moment, everything he touched turned into gold. When he went back to his palace, his little daughter ran to him. He hugged her, but to his horror, she turned into a golden statue. The king was very sad. He understood that gold could not give him true happiness. Only love and a peaceful mind could. He prayed to the god to take away the golden touch. The god agreed, and his daughter became alive again. The king learned never to be greedy.

এরপর থেকে তিনি যা স্পর্শ করতেন, সব সোনায় পরিণত হতো। যখন তিনি প্রাসাদে ফিরলেন, তাঁর ছোট মেয়ে দৌড়ে এসে তাঁকে জড়িয়ে ধরল। কিন্তু ভয়ে রাজা দেখলেন, তাঁর মেয়েটি সোনার মূর্তিতে পরিণত হয়েছে। রাজা খুব দুঃখ পেলেন। তিনি বুঝলেন, সোনা আসল সুখ দিতে পারে না। কেবল ভালোবাসা ও শান্ত মনই সুখ দিতে পারে।

তিনি দেবতার কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন সোনার ছোঁয়া তুলে নিতে। দেবতা রাজি হলেন এবং তাঁর মেয়েটি আবার জীবিত হলো। রাজা শিখলেন, কখনও লোভী হওয়া উচিত নয়।

After a short time, he remembered that a mail train was supposed to pass in about half an hour. He thought an accident could happen. The boy became worried about the passengers' lives.
He started thinking about how he could stop the train and save the people. He knew that a train stops if someone waves a red flag. Luckily, he had a red napkin with him. The boy decided to use the napkin as a flag. Just then, he heard the sound of the train. The train was coming very fast. The boy stood beside the railway line and waved the red napkin. An Honest Woodcutter : Completing Story
There was a woodcutter who lived in a village. One day he was cutting wood near a river. Suddenly, his axe fell into the river. The woodcutter didn’t know how to swim or dive. So, he sat there sadly.

Then something magical happened. The river goddess appeared in front of him. She asked him why he was crying. The woodcutter told her everything.

The river goddess felt sorry for him. She went into the river and came back with a golden axe. She asked, “Is this your axe?” The woodcutter said, “No.”

Then she went into the river again and brought a silver axe. The woodcutter again said, “No, this is not mine.”

At last, she brought the iron axe that belonged to the woodcutter. He was very happy to get back his own axe. The goddess was pleased with his honesty. She gave him all three axes as a reward.

একজন কাঠুরে একটি গ্রামে বাস করতো। একদিন সে নদীর পাশে কাঠ কাটছিল। হঠাৎ করে তার কুড়ালটি নদীতে পড়ে যায়। কাঠুরে সাঁতার জানত না বা ডুব দিতে পারত না। তাই সে দুঃখ করে বসে থাকলো।

The Story: Justice for Quazi
Gias Uddin Azam Shah was a great ruler of Bengal. He was kind and just. He was fond of hunting.
One day he went hunting at a nearby jungle. He aimed at a fawn but missed his target and pierced into the breast of a young boy who died instantly. The boy was the only son of a widow.
She becomes almost mad in sorrow. She went to the Quazi and complained against the Sultan for justice.
The Quazi was a beave judge. He was famous for his fair justice. He called the Sultan before the court.
He asked the Sultan to compensate the widow for her loss. Otherwise, he would punish him.
The sultan at once carried out the order of Quazi. He satisfied the widow by giving her compensation.
Then the Quazi got down from his seat and showed the Sultan due honour. He said to Sultan” If you had disobeyed my order I would have beaten you with my cane” While leaving the court the Sultan drew his sword and said to Quazi,” If you had failed to do justice out fear for me, I would have punished you with this sword
He thanked the Quazi for his brave and fair judgment.He embraced the Quazi

গিয়াস উদ্দিন আজম শাহ ছিলেন বাংলার একজন মহান শাসক। তিনি ছিলেন দয়ালু এবং ন্যায়বান। তিনি শিকার করতে খুব পছন্দ করতেন।

একদিন তিনি কাছের জঙ্গলে শিকারে গেলেন। তিনি একটি হরিণছানাকে লক্ষ্য করে তীর ছুঁড়লেন, কিন্তু লক্ষ্যভ্রষ্ট হয়ে তা এক কিশোরের বুকে গিয়ে বিদ্ধ হয় এবং সে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মারা যায়। ছেলেটি ছিল একটি বিধবার একমাত্র সন্তান।

বিধবা শোকে প্রায় পাগল হয়ে যায়। সে কাজীর কাছে গিয়ে সুলতানের বিরুদ্ধে বিচার চায়।

কাজী ছিলেন সাহসী একজন বিচারক। তিনি তার ন্যায়বিচারের জন্য বিখ্যাত ছিলেন। তিনি সুলতানকে আদালতে হাজির হতে বলেন।

তিনি সুলতানকে বলেন, “তুমি বিধবাকে ক্ষতিপূরণ দাও, না হলে আমি তোমাকে শাস্তি দেব।”

সুলতান সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই কাজীর আদেশ পালন করেন। তিনি বিধবাকে ক্ষতিপূরণ দিয়ে সন্তুষ্ট করেন।

তারপর কাজী তার আসন থেকে নেমে এসে সুলতানকে যথাযথ সম্মান দেখান। তিনি সুলতানকে বলেন, “আপনি যদি আমার আদেশ না মানতেন, তাহলে আমি আমার লাঠি দিয়ে আপনাকে মারতাম।”

আদালত ছাড়ার সময় সুলতান তার তলোয়ার বের করে বলেন, “আপনি যদি আমার ভয়ে ন্যায়বিচার না করতেন, তাহলে আমি আপনাকে এই তলোয়ার দিয়ে শাস্তি দিতাম।”

তিনি কাজীকে সাহসী ও সঠিক বিচার দেওয়ার জন্য ধন্যবাদ দেন এবং তাকে আলিঙ্গন করেন।

Othoi: Hi Raisa, did you hear about the road accident near our school yesterday?

Raisa: Yes, I did. It was so sad. A student was hit by a bus.

Othoi: I feel really bad. Road accidents are happening almost every day now.

Raisa: You’re right. Most of the time, it’s because of careless driving or people crossing roads without looking.
