Literary Terms: এগুলি না জানা থাকলে সাহিত্য পড়তে একটু অসুবিধা হবে এটিইতো স্বাভাবিক। তাই অস্বাভাবিক হবার কোন কারন নেই এখুনি পড়া শুরু করুন।
1. Prologue: - A Speech at the beginning of a playbook, film, movie that introduce it.
Prologue হচ্ছে নাটক ,সিনেমা , এর সূচনাকারী অংশ ।
2. Epilogue: - A short speech at the end of a play, book, film/movie that conclude it.
Epilogue , হচ্ছে নাটক ,সিনেমা , এর সমাপনী অংশ ।
3. Monologue: - A long speech in a play or film which has a single Speaker expresses his personal feelings to silent listener.
Monologue , হচ্ছে নাটক , সিনেমার ,নীরব দর্শকের উদ্দেশ্যে অভিনেতার একক সংলাপ।
4. Dialogue: - Conversation between characters in a book, play or film.
Dialogue , হচ্ছে নাটক , সিনেমা , বইয়ের চরিত্রগুলির মধ্যে কথোপকথন ।
5. Dramatic monologue: - A form of poetry in which a single speaker speaks to a silent listener..
যে কবিতায় একজন বক্তা একজন নীরব শ্রোতার কছে তার অনুভূতি প্রকাশ করে ।
6. Play: - A piece of writing performed by actors in theatre , TV and radio.
একজনের লেখা বা থিয়েটার টেলিভিশনের ও রেডিওতে অভিনয়ের মাধ্যমে উপস্থাপন করা হয় ।
7. Tragedy: - A serious play with sad ending.
এক ধরনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নাটক যার সমাপ্তি শোকময় ।
8. Comedy: - A light play or film intended to be funny and happy ending.
এক ধরনের নাটক যার প্রথম এবং শেষ আনন্দের হয় ।
9. Catastrophe: - Tragic conclusion or final event of a tragedy.
শোকপূর্ণ নটকের চুড়ান্ত অংশ ।
10. Catharsis: - Purification of emotion.
Tragedy দেখে গভীর অনুভূতির কথা অন্যকে জানানোর ফলে নিজের আবেগমূতি ।
11. Climax: - It is a highest or turning point of a story.
মুখ্য চরিত্রের জীবনে ভাগ্যনিধারনী চরম মুহূর্ত ।
12. Metaphor: - Comparison between two dissimilar things are called metaphor.
২টি ভিন্ন জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা বোঝানোকে metaphorবলে ।N.B=metaphor a As,like,as.....as,resemble,as if শব্দগুলো বসবে না ।
13. Prosody: - Prosody is the study of versification.
এ অংশে কবিতার বিশ্লেষণ করা হয় ।
14. Soliloquy: - A speech expresses by anyone about his personal thought to the audience loudly.
বক্তা নিজের মনের ভাব মঞ্চে একা থাকা অবস্থায় দর্শক বা শ্রোতার কাছে জোরে প্রকাশ করে ।
15. Aside: - It is a short speech to the audience which remains secret to other characters.
নাটক মঞ্চে কাউকে না শুনিয়ে মূলত দর্শকদের উদ্দেশে কিছু বলা হয় ।
16. Act: - One of the major unit of a play.
নাটকের অংশকে বুঝতে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।অর্থাৎ খন্ড, উদাহরণ হিসেবে বলা যায় যে শেক্সপিয়রের প্যতিটা নাটক ৫ টি খন্ডে বিভক্ত।
17. Canto: - One of the section of a long poem.
বড় কবিতার অংশকে বুঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
18. Chapter: - One of the major part of a book.
বইয়ের কোন অংশকে বুঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
19. Stanza: - One of the part of a Short poem.
ছোট কবিতার অংশকে বুঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
20. Sonnet: - A lyrics poem with fourteen iambic pentameter line. Each line containing five feet and ten syllables.
সনেট হচ্ছে চতুর্দশপদী কবিতা ।
**Sonnet তিন প্রকার
(1) Petrarchan sonnet.
(2) Shakespearean sonnet.
(3) Spenserian sonnet.
1. Petrarchan sonnet: - Rhyme scheme of Petrarchan sonnet is abba abba cdcdcd/cdc cdc.
2. Shakespearean sonnet: - Rhyme scheme of Shakespearean sonnet is abad cdcd efef gg.
3. Spenserian sonnet: - Rhyme scheme of Spenserian sonnet is abad bcbc cdcd ec.
** Sonnet এর দুটি অংশ
1. Octave: - 1st 8 line of sonnet are called octave.
2. Sestet: - last 6 lines of sonnet are called sestet.
21. Couplet: - Two lines of poem/poetry of equal length and rhyme.
কাব্য বা কবিতার সমদৈর্ঘ্য বিশিষ্ট দুটি লাইন ।
22. Tercet: - Three lines of stanza of a poem.
তিন লাইনের কবিতা বা কবিতার ত্রিপদী বিশিষ্ট স্তবক ।
23. Quatrain: - Four lines of stanza of a poem.
চার লাইনের কবিতা বা কবিতার চর্তুপদ বিশিষ্ট স্তবক ।
24. Quintrain: - Five lines of stanza of poem.
পাঁচ লাইনের কবিতা বা কবিতার পঞ্চপদ বিশিষ্ট স্তবক ।
25. Octrain: - Eight lines stanza of a poem.
আট লাইনের কবিতা বা কবিতার অষ্টপদ বিশিষ্ট স্তবক ।
26. Refrain: - The lines of a song or poem that is repeated after each verse.
যে লাইনগুলো গান বা কবিতার স্তবকের শেষে পুনরাবৃত্তি করা হয় ।
27. Limerick: - A funny poem with five lines.
পাঁচ লাইনের হাস্যরসাত্মক কবিতা ।
28. Foot: - The basic unit of rhythmic part of a line is foot. Foot is measured with long and short syllable.
লাইনের শ্রুতি মধুরতা সৃষ্টির জন্য শব্দাংশকে জোর দেয়া ও অল্প জোর দেওয়াকে বুঝায় ।
29. Meter: - It deals with unit of measurement deals with foot. It is collection of feet. )(কয়েকটি foot এর সমন্বয়ে meter তৈরি হয় ।)
30. Monometer: - A line containing one foot.
31. Diameter: - A line containing two feet.
অনুরূপভাবে Tri (তিন), Tetra (চার ), Penta (পাঁচ), Hexa (ছয় ), Hepta (সাত), Octa (আট)।
32. Blank verse: - Poetry written in iambic pentameter but having no rhyming end.
যে ধরনের কবিতার শেষে ছন্দ মিল থাকে না ।
33. Free verse: - Poetry without a regular meter of rhyme scheme.
যে ধরনের কবিতায় অনিয়মিত মিটার ও শেষে ছন্দ মিল থাকে ।
34. Pantomime: - One kind of drama depends on fairy tale with music and dance but acting without speech.
এক ধরনের নাটিকা যা কোন রূপকথারি উপর ভিত্তি করে রচিত।
35. Melodrama: - It is a play in which many exciting event happened, character show strong emotion and audiences feel
tension.
উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ নাটক যাতে চরিত্রগুলো তাদের গভীীর আবেক প্রকাশ করে এবং দর্শকরা উত্তেজিত থাকে পরবর্তী ঘটনা দেখার জন্য ।
36. Memoir/Autobiography: - In which writing writer writes about his personal life is called autobiography.
যে ধরনের রচনায় কোন বেক্তি তার নিজের জীবনী সম্পর্কে লিখে তাকে Autobiography বলে।
37. Rhyme: - The similar pronunciation of words in the last part of a line in a poem.
এর অর্থৃ অন্তমিল , শব্দসমূহের শেষ অংশে উচ্চারনের মিল ।
38. Epic: - A long narrative poem containing brave deeds of great man of hero.
কোন বিখ্যাত ব্যাব্তির মহৎ কাজ ।
There are two kinds of Epics: -
I. Primary epic: - Which history of fairy tales are created orally.
II. Secondary epic: - Which history of fairy tales are created by following ancient structure in written is called secondary epic.
39. Lyrics poem: - A short narrative poem expressing personal thought of a speaker
এক ধরনের ছোট বর্ণনামূলক কবিতা , যাতে লেখক তার নিজস্ব চিন্তাচেতনাকে ফুটিয়ে তোলে ।
Example: - Elegy, sonnet, ode, hymn, dramatic, monologue, epithalamion etc.
40. Elegy: - A mournful poem that laments about tragic incident.
যে কবিতায় কোন মর্মান্তিক ঘটনার শোক প্রকাশ করা হয় ।
41. Ballad: - A short narrative poem that tells a story.
কোন কাহিনী সম্বলিত কবিতা ।
42. Ode: - A kind of poem that starts with address of someone’s agony and end with hope.
িএক ধরনের কবিতা যার সূচনা হয় দুঃখময় ঘটনার মাধ্যমে ও শেষ হয় আশার মাধ্যমে ।
43. Dirge: - A slow sad song sung in the funeral.
অন্তোষ্টিক্রিয়ার সময় গাওয়া হয় যে সংগীত ।
44. Hymn: - A kind of prayers song sung by Christian people.
খ্রিস্টানদের প্রার্থনামূলক বা ধর্মীয় গান ।
45. Legend: - A very old story from ancient times about famous people but not always true.
কোন বিখ্যাত বেক্তি সম্পর্কে গল্প যা সর্বদা সত্য নাও হতে পারে ।
46. Mythology: - Ancient story collection of god and goddess and their mystery. (দেবদেবী সম্পর্কিত প্রাচীন কাল্পনিক গল্পের সমাহার )
47. Parody: - A funny imitation of a poem.
অন্য কারো রচনা, কবিতা , গান , ভঙ্গি নকল করে মানুসের মত আচরন করে ।
48. Fable: - A story with animal as the main character is called fable.
যে ধরনের গল্পে পশুপাখি বা জীব প্রধান চরিত্র থেকে মানুশের মত আচরণ করে ।
49. Eulogy: - One kind of high admirable speech.
উচ্চ প্রশংসামূলক উক্তি ।
50. Caricature: - One kind of hyperbolic satirical writing speech or drawing.
উপহাসের উদ্দেশ্যে রচিত
51. Parable: - An educative short story of moral and religional lesson.
নৈতিক ও ধর্মীয় শিক্ষামূলক ছোট গল্প ।
52. Fiction: - A branch of literature which discusses about imaginary person and event. It doesn’t base on reality.
সাহিত্যের যে শাখায় কাল্পনিক ব্যাক্তি বা ঘটনা নিয়ে লেখা হয় , যেখানে বাস্তবতার কোন মিল নেই ।
53. Allegory: - An allegory is a piece of literature, like a poem or story, in which people, things have a hidden meaning.
এক ধরনের সাহিত্যকর্ম যেখানে প্রত্যেক চরিত্র ও কাহিনীর মধ্যে গুপ্ত অর্থ থাকে অর্থাৎ রূপকধর্মী বা প্রতিকাশ্রয়ী কাহিনী 54. Satire: - A literary attack on the fault of a person and society with a view to correcting them by using humor, irony
and ridicule.
এক ধরনের সাহিত্যকর্ম যেখানে , মানুষ ও সমাজের দোষত্রুটি দেখানো হয় এবং তা সংশোধনের জন্য রসিকতা , অতিরঞ্জন ও উপহাস করা হয় ।
55. Poetic Justice: - The natural judgment which is given by God and people think that this is what he deserves.
যখন কারো সাথে খারাপ কিছু ঘটে যা প্রকৃতিগত বা ঈশ্বর প্রদত্ত শাস্তি হিসেবে ধরে নেওয়া হয় ।
56. Poetic License: - Freedom to change the normal rules of language in a special piece of writing.
এ ধরনের লেখায় প্রথগত ধারা থেকে বিচ্যুত হওয়ার স্বাধীনতা লাভ করা য়ায় ।
57. Metaphysical poetry: - A school of a poetry which deals with spiritual matter like god, love, and religion.
আধ্যাত্মিক বিষয় নিয়ে রচিত কবিতা ।
58. Simile: - Simile is a figure of a speech which makes a direct comparison between two dissimilar things. A simile has
some word such as: - Like, As , as/so…….as
দুটি বস্তুর মধ্যে সরাসরি তুলনা যেখানে As, Like, As, as/so…….as শব্দগুলো ব্যবহৃত হয় ।
59. Personification: - It is a figure of speech in which lifeless objects are given life.
কোন প্রানহীন বস্তুকে সজীব বস্তুর সাথে তুলনা ।
60. Hyperbole: - It is a figure of speech which means exaggeration. (অতিরঞ্জিত কোন লেখাকে বুঝায় ।)
61. Oxymoron: - It is a figure of speech in which two contradictory words are used together.
দুইটি বিপরীত জিনিসের পাশাপাশি অবস্থান বুঝাতে ।
62. Alliteration: - The repetition of consonant sound in two or more word is called alliteration.
পাশাপাশি কয়েকটা শব্দের শুরুতে বা মাঝে consonant sound এর পুনরাবৃত্তি ।
