Connectors বা Linkers সঠিকভাবে ব্যবহার করার জন্য তাদের **Function (কাজ)** এবং **Placement (অবস্থান)** বোঝা খুব জরুরি। নিচে বিস্তারিত নিয়ম এবং বাস্তবসম্মত উদাহরণসহ আলোচনা করা হলো।

# # # ১. ধারাবাহিকতা বা ক্রম বোঝাতে (Sequence/Order)
কোনো ঘটনা একটার পর একটা ঘটলে বা কোনো প্রক্রিয়ার ধাপ বর্ণনা করতে এগুলো ব্যবহার করা হয়।

* **Connectors:** Firstly (প্রথমত), Secondly (দ্বিতীয়ত), Then (তারপর), After that (তারপরে), Finally/Lastly (অবশেষে)।
* **Rule:** সাধারণত Paragraph-এর শুরুতে বা কোনো ঘটনার বর্ণনায় এগুলো বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে।
* **Examples:**
* **Firstly**, you need to buy a ticket. **Secondly**, collect your boarding pass. **Then**, wait for the announcement. **Finally**, board the plane.
* (প্রথমত টিকেট কিনুন, দ্বিতীয়ত বোর্ডিং পাস নিন, তারপর ঘোষণার জন্য অপেক্ষা করুন এবং অবশেষে বিমানে উঠুন।)

# # # ২. অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করতে (Adding Information)
আগের বাক্যের তথ্যের সাথে আরও তথ্য যোগ করতে বা জোর দিতে এগুলো ব্যবহৃত হয়।

* **Connectors:** And (এবং), Moreover (তাছাড়া/অধিকন্তু), Furthermore (তদুপরি), Besides (তাছাড়া), In addition (অতিরিক্ত), Not only...but also (শুধু এটা না... ওটাও)।
* **Rule:** ‘And’ সাধারণ যোগে ব্যবহৃত হয়। কিন্তু আগের বাক্যটি যদি একটু গম্ভীর বা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হয়, তবে পরের বাক্যের শুরুতে `Moreover` বা `Furthermore` ব্যবহার করা শ্রেয়।
* **Examples:**
* Mobile phones help us communicate. **Moreover**, they are a source of entertainment. (মোবাইল যোগাযোগে সাহায্য করে। তাছাড়া, এটি বিনোদনেরও উৎস।)
* The house is too expensive. **Besides**, it is too far from my office. (বাড়িটি অনেক দামি। তাছাড়া, এটি আমার অফিস থেকেও অনেক দূরে।)
* He is **not only** a good student **but also** a good player.

# # # ৩. বিপরীত অর্থ বা অমিল বোঝাতে (Contrast)
দুটি বাক্যের মধ্যে অর্থের বিরোধিতা থাকলে বা প্রত্যাশার উল্টো কিছু ঘটলে।

* **Connectors:** But (কিন্তু), However (যাইহোক), Although/Though (যদিও), On the other hand (অন্যদিকে), Yet (তবুও), Instead (পরিবর্তে)।
* **Rule:**
* `Although/Though` সাধারণত বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে দুটি অংশকে জোড়া লাগায়।
* `However` সাধারণত আগের বাক্য শেষ হওয়ার পর নতুন বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে এবং এরপর একটি কমা (,) দিতে হয়।
* **Examples:**
* **Although** the man is rich, he is miser. (যদিও লোকটি ধনী, সে কৃপণ।)
* He studied hard for the exam. **However**, he could not get a GPA-5. (সে কঠোর পড়েছিল। যাইহোক/তবুও, সে জিপিএ-৫ পায়নি।)
* Village life is peaceful. **On the other hand**, city life is chaotic. (গ্রামের জীবন শান্ত। অন্যদিকে শহরের জীবন বিশৃঙ্খল।)

# # # ৪. কারণ ও ফলাফল বোঝাতে (Cause and Effect)
একটি ঘটনার কারণে অন্যটি ঘটলে।

**ক) কারণ (Reason):**
* **Connectors:** Since (যেহেতু), As (যেহেতু/কারণ), Because (কারণ), Due to (কারণে)।
* **Rule:** `Since` এবং `As` সাধারণত বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে। `Because` বাক্যের মাঝে বসে।
* **Examples:**
* **Since** the weather was rough, we cancelled the trip. (যেহেতু আবহাওয়া খারাপ ছিল, আমরা ট্রিপটি বাতিল করলাম।)
* He failed **because** he was lazy.

**খ) ফলাফল (Result):**
* **Connectors:** So (তাই), Therefore (অতএব), As a result (ফলে), Consequently (পরিণামে)।
* **Rule:** `So` ইনফরমাল বা সাধারণ কথায় বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়। `Therefore` বা `Consequently` ফরমাল রাইটিং-এ বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
* **Examples:**
* He violated the traffic rules. **Consequently**, he was fined. (সে ট্রাফিক আইন ভেঙেছে। পরিণামে, তাকে জরিমানা করা হয়েছে।)
* Bangladesh is a small country. **Therefore**, it cannot house a large population properly.

# # # ৫. উদাহরণ দিতে (Giving Examples)
কোনো বক্তব্যের সপক্ষে উদাহরণ টানতে।

* **Connectors:** For example (উদাহরণস্বরূপ), For instance (উদাহরণস্বরূপ), Such as (যেমন), Namely (যথা)।
* **Rule:** তালিকার আগে `Such as` বসে। নতুন বাক্যে উদাহরণ শুরু করলে `For example` বসে।
* **Examples:**
* We should eat healthy foods, **such as** fruits and vegetables. (আমাদের স্বাস্থ্যকর খাবার খাওয়া উচিত, যেমন ফল এবং সবজি।)
* Many countries are facing economic crisis. **For instance**, Sri Lanka is in a bad state.

# # # ৬. শর্ত বোঝাতে (Condition)
কোনো কাজ হওয়ার পেছনে যদি কোনো শর্ত থাকে।

* **Connectors:** If (যদি), Unless (যদি না), Provided that (শর্ত থাকে যে), In case (যদি)।
* **Examples:**
* **If** you respect others, others will respect you. (যদি তুমি অন্যকে সম্মান করো, অন্যরাও তোমাকে সম্মান করবে।)
* You will not succeed **unless** you work hard. (তুমি সফল হবে না যদি না তুমি কঠোর পরিশ্রম করো।)
* Take an umbrella **in case** it rains. (ছাতাটি নাও যদি বৃষ্টি হয়।)

# # # ৭. নিশ্চয়তা বা জোর প্রদান করতে (Emphasis)
কোনো বিষয়কে নিশ্চিতভাবে বা প্রকৃতপক্ষে বোঝাতে।

* **Connectors:** Actually (আসলে), In fact (প্রকৃতপক্ষে), Undoubtedly (নিঃসন্দেহে), Indeed (বস্তুত)।
* **Rule:** আগের বাক্যের কোনো ভুল ধারণা শুধরে দিতে বা কোনো সত্য প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে এগুলো বসে।
* **Examples:**
* Everyone thinks he is happy. **Actually**, he is very depressed. (সবাই ভাবে সে সুখী। আসলে, সে খুব হতাশ।)
* Bangladesh has many problems. **Undoubtedly**, corruption is the biggest one.

# # # ৮. সম্পর্কযুক্ত সর্বনাম (Relative Pronouns)
দুটি বাক্যকে এক করতে ব্যক্তির বা বস্তুর পরিবর্তে বসে।

* **Connectors:** Who (যে/কে), Which (যেটা), That (যেটা/যা), Where (যেখানে), When (যখন)।
* **Rule:**
* ব্যক্তি হলে: **Who**
* বস্তু বা প্রাণী হলে: **Which/That**
* স্থান হলে: **Where**
* সময় হলে: **When**
* **Examples:**
* I saw a man **who** was crying. (আমি একটা লোক দেখলাম যে কাঁদছিল।)
* This is the pen **which** I lost yesterday. (এটা সেই কলম যেটা আমি কাল হারিয়েছিলাম।)
* 1971 is the year **when** we became independent.

# # # ৯. উপসংহার বা সমাপ্তি (Conclusion)
সবশেষে সারকথা বলতে।

* **Connectors:** To sum up, In short, In conclusion, Above all.
* **Examples:**
* He is rude, lazy, and dishonest. **In short**, he is a bad person. (সংক্ষেপে, সে একজন খারাপ লোক।)
* **Above all**, patriotism is a noble virtue. (সর্বোপরি, দেশপ্রেম একটি মহৎ গুণ।)

# # # মনে রাখার শর্টকাট টেকনিক (Summary Rules):

1. **Sentence + Sentence (সমজাতীয়):** `And`, `Moreover`, `Besides`.
2. **Sentence + Sentence (বিপরীত):** `But`, `However`, `Yet`.
3. **Reason (কারণ) + Result (ফলাফল):** `So`, `Therefore`.
4. **Result (ফলাফল) + Reason (কারণ):** `Because`, `As`.
5. **List (তালিকা):** `Firstly`, `Secondly`, `Finally`.

এই বিস্তারিত নিয়মগুলো চর্চা করলে Connectors বা Linkers ব্যবহার করা আপনার জন্য অনেক সহজ হয়ে যাবে।

**Passage Narration** হলো সাধারণ Narration-এরই একটু বিস্তারিত রূপ। এখানে বিচ্ছিন্ন বাক্য থাকে না, বরং একটি কথোপকথন (Conversation) থাকে। Passage Narration সমাধানের জন্য **Sentence Narration**-এর নিয়মগুলোর পাশাপাশি কিছু বিশেষ নিয়ম বা কৌশল অবলম্বন করতে হয়।

নিচে Passage Narration-এর **Step-by-Step Rules** এবং উদাহরণ দেওয়া হলো।

# # # ১. পুরো প্যাসেজটি পড়ে বক্তা (Speaker) ও শ্রোতা (Listener) নির্ণয় করা
Passage-এর শুরুতে বক্তা ও শ্রোতার নাম নাও থাকতে পারে, হয়তো শেষে বা মাঝখানে থাকতে পারে। কিন্তু Indirect করার সময় প্রথমেই **Speaker + Verb + Listener** বসাতে হবে।

> **Direct:** "Will you go to college today?" said the teacher to the boy. "No, Sir. I am sick."
> **Indirect:** The teacher asked the boy if he would go to college that day. The boy respectfully replied in the negative and said that he was sick.

# # # ২. একই বক্তার একাধিক উক্তি থাকলে (Multiple Sentences by Same Speaker)
যদি একই বক্তা পরপর একাধিক বাক্য বলে, তবে বারবার `said` না লিখে নিচের কানেক্টরগুলো ব্যবহার করতে হয়:

* **Assertive Sentence-এর ক্ষেত্রে:**
* ১ম বাক্য: `said that`
* ২য় বাক্য: `added that` / `also said that`
* ৩য় বাক্য: `further added that` / `again said that`
* **Interrogative Sentence-এর ক্ষেত্রে:**
* `also asked` / `further asked` / `again asked`

> **Direct:** Rina said to me, "I shall go to Dhaka tomorrow. I will buy a book. Will you go with me?"
> **Indirect:** Rina told me that she would go to Dhaka the next day. She **added that** she would buy a book. She **also asked** if I would go with her.

# # # ৩. "Yes" বা "No" থাকলে
* **Yes থাকলে:** `Replied in the affirmative`.
* **No থাকলে:** `Replied in the negative`.
* **Yes/No-এর পর আরও কথা থাকলে:** `Replied in the affirmative and said that...` / `Replied in the negative and said that...`

> **Direct:** He said to me, "Have you done the work?" I said, "Yes, I have done it."
> **Indirect:** He asked me if I had done the work. I **replied in the affirmative and said that** I had done it.

# # # ৪. "Sir" বা "Madam" থাকলে
* `Respectfully` অথবা `With respect` ব্যবহার করতে হয়।

> **Direct:** The student said to the teacher, "Sir, may I come in?"
> **Indirect:** The student **respectfully** asked the teacher if he might come in.

# # # ৫. কাউকে সম্বোধন করা হলে (Vocative Case)
কাউকে নাম ধরে বা কোনো সম্পর্কে (যেমন: Friend, Brother) ডাকলে `Addressing as` ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
* **Structure:** Addressing + (obj) + as + (term), Subject + Verb...

> **Direct:** "Friends, help me," said the leader.
> **Indirect:** **Addressing them as friends**, the leader requested them to help him.
>
> **Direct:** "Kamal, give me the pen," said Rime.
> **Indirect:** **Addressing him as Kamal**, Rime requested him to give her the pen. (অথবা: *Rime told Kamal to give her the pen.*)

# # # ৬. ছোট বা অসম্পূর্ণ বাক্য থাকলে (Incomplete Sentences)
Passage-এ অনেক সময় ছোট উত্তর থাকে। Indirect করার সময় আগের প্রশ্নের রেফারেন্স নিয়ে পূর্ণ বাক্য লিখতে হয়।

> **Direct:** "Where are you going?" said he. "To market," said I.
> **Indirect:** He asked me where I was going. I replied that **I was going to market**.

# # # ৭. By Allah / By God (শপথ করা) থাকলে
* `Swearing by Allah` বা `Swearing by God` ব্যবহার করতে হয়।

> **Direct:** "By Allah, I will not leave you," he said.
> **Indirect:** **Swearing by Allah**, he said that he would not leave me.

# # # ৮. Thank you / Good bye / Good morning থাকলে
এক্ষেত্রে Reporting Verb-এর প্রয়োজন হয় না, শব্দগুলোই Verb হয়ে যায়।

# # # ৯. Assertive বাক্যের শেষে প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন (?) থাকলে
অনেক সময় বক্তা অবাক হয়ে বা নিশ্চিত হতে Assertive বাক্যকেই প্রশ্নের সুরে বলে। তখন `Being surprised` + `asked` ব্যবহার করা ভালো।

> **Direct:** He said to me, "You have remembered me?"
> **Indirect:** **Being surprised**, he asked me if I had remembered him.

# # # ১০. Excuse / Sorry থাকলে
* Sorry থাকলে: `apologized` বা `expressed his regret` ব্যবহার করা যায়।

> **Direct:** "Sorry, I am late," said the boy.
> **Indirect:** The boy **apologized** and said that he was late.

# # # একটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ উদাহরণ (Real Life Exercise)

**Direct Passage:**
The teacher said to the student, "Have you prepared your lesson today?"
"No, Sir," replied the student. "I was suffering from fever yesterday. But I will do it tomorrow."
"Oh! Do not be sad. You must take care of your health," said the teacher.
"Thank you, Sir," said the student.

**Indirect Solution:**
The teacher asked the student if he had prepared his lesson that day. The student **respectfully replied in the negative and said that** he had been suffering from fever the previous day. But he **added that** he would do that the next day. The teacher exclaimed with sorrow (বা sympathy) not to be sad and **advised that** he **had to** (must থাকলে had to) take care of his health. The student **respectfully thanked** him.

# # # টিপস (মনে রাখার জন্য):
১. সব সময় **Past Tense**-এ রূপান্তর করতে ভুলবেন না (যদি Reporting verb past হয়)।
২. `this` থাকলে `that`, `now` থাকলে `then`—এগুলো Passage-এ খুব খেয়াল রাখতে হয়।
৩. বাক্যগুলো জোড়া লাগানোর জন্য `and`, `but`, `so` ব্যবহার করতে পারেন, তবে `added that`, `also asked` ব্যবহার করাই স্ট্যান্ডার্ড।

নারেশন (Narration) বা উক্তি পরিবর্তন ইংরেজি গ্রামারের একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। ভর্তি পরীক্ষা ও চাকরির পরীক্ষায় এখান থেকে প্রশ্ন থাকেই। নিচে নারেশনের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সব রুলস উদাহরণসহ সহজভাবে দেওয়া হলো।

নারেশন প্রধানত দুই প্রকার:
1. **Direct Speech** (প্রত্যক্ষ উক্তি)
2. **Indirect Speech** (পরোক্ষ উক্তি)

# # # প্রাথমিক ৩টি পরিবর্তন (Basic Changes)

Indirect করার সময় মূলত ৩টি জায়গায় পরিবর্তন হয়:
1. **Person Change** (পুরুষ পরিবর্তন)
2. **Tense Change** (কাল পরিবর্তন)
3. **Adverb/Time Change** (সময় ও স্থানবাচক শব্দ পরিবর্তন)

# # # # ১. Person পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম (SON Formula)
* **1st Person** (I, we, my, us) $\rightarrow$ পরিবর্তন হয় **Subject** অনুযায়ী।
* **2nd Person** (You, your) $\rightarrow$ পরিবর্তন হয় **Object** অনুযায়ী।
* **3rd Person** (He, she, they, it) $\rightarrow$ কোনো পরিবর্তন হয় না (**No Change**)।

# # # # ২. Tense পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম
Reporting Verb (বাইরের অংশ) যদি **Past Tense** হয়, তবেই ভেতরের Tense বদলাবে।

# # # Sentence অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তনের নিয়ম

# # # # ১. Assertive Sentence (বিবৃতিমূলক বাক্য)
* **Reporting Verb:** `said` থাকলে `said` থাকে; `said to` থাকলে `told` হয়।
* **Connector:** Inverted comma উঠে `that` বসে।

> **Direct:** He said to me, "I am reading a book."
> **Indirect:** He told me **that** he **was** reading a book.
>
> **Direct:** She said, "I wrote a letter."
> **Indirect:** She said **that** she **had written** a letter. (Past Indefinite $\rightarrow$ Past Perfect)

# # # # ২. Interrogative Sentence (প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য)
* **Reporting Verb:** `asked` বা `enquired of` বসে।
* **Connector:**
* Auxiliary verb (Do, Did, Am, Is, Can ইত্যাদি) দিয়ে শুরু হলে `if` বা `whether` বসে।
* WH-word (Who, What, Where ইত্যাদি) দিয়ে শুরু হলে **ওই WH-word টিই** বসে।
* **Note:** প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্যটি Indirect-এ **Assertive** (Subject + Verb) হয়ে যায়।

> **Direct:** He said to me, "Do you know me?"
> **Indirect:** He asked me **if** I knew him. (Present $\rightarrow$ Past)
>
> **Direct:** Father said to me, "Where are you going?"
> **Indirect:** Father asked me **where** I **was** going.

# # # # ৩. Imperative Sentence (আদেশ, উপদেশ, অনুরোধ)
* **Reporting Verb:**
* আদেশ = `ordered`
* অনুরোধ = `requested`
* উপদেশ = `advised`
* নিষেধ = `forbade`
* বোঝা না গেলে = `told`
* **Connector:** Inverted comma উঠে `to` বসে। (নেগেটিভ হলে `not to` বসে)।

> **Direct:** The teacher said to the student, "Stand up."
> **Indirect:** The teacher **ordered** the student **to** stand up.
>
> **Direct:** Mother said to me, "Do not run in the sun."
> **Indirect:** Mother **advised** me **not to** run in the sun.
> *(Or: Mother **forbade** me **to** run in the sun.)*

# # # # ৪. Optative Sentence (ইচ্ছা বা প্রার্থনা)
* **Reporting Verb:** `prayed` (আল্লাহ/গডের কাছে চাইলে) বা `wished` বসে।
* **Connector:** `that` বসে।
* **Structure:** Subject + might + verb...

> **Direct:** He said to me, "May you be happy."
> **Indirect:** He **wished** that I **might** be happy.
>
> **Direct:** Mother said, "May Allah bless you."
> **Indirect:** Mother **prayed** that Allah **might** bless me.

# # # # ৫. Exclamatory Sentence (আবেগসূচক বাক্য)
* **Reporting Verb:**
* আনন্দ = `exclaimed with joy`
* দুঃখ = `exclaimed with sorrow` / `grief`
* বিস্ময় = `exclaimed with wonder` / `surprise`
* **Connector:** `that` বসে।
* **Note:** Very বা Great যোগ করতে হয় Adjective-এর আগে।

> **Direct:** The boy said, "Hurrah! We have won the game."
> **Indirect:** The boy **exclaimed with joy that** they had won the game.
>
> **Direct:** He said, "What a nice bird it is!"
> **Indirect:** He exclaimed with wonder that it was a **very** nice bird.

# # # কিছু বিশেষ নিয়ম (Special/Advanced Rules) - পরীক্ষার জন্য জরুরি

**Rule 1: Universal Truth (চিরন্তন সত্য)**
Reporting verb পাস্ট হলেও ভেতরের Tense-এর কোনো পরিবর্তন হয় না।
> **Direct:** The teacher said, "The earth moves round the sun."
> **Indirect:** The teacher said that the earth **moves** round the sun.

**Rule 2: 'Let' যুক্ত বাক্য**
* **প্রস্তাব (Proposal) বোঝালে (Let us):**
* Verb: `proposed` বা `suggested`
* Connector: `that`
* Structure: Subject + **should** + Verb.
> **Direct:** He said to me, "Let us go out for a walk."
> **Indirect:** He proposed to me that we **should** go out for a walk.

* **অনুমতি (Permission) বোঝালে (Let me/him/them):**
* Verb: `requested` বা `told`
* Structure: Subject + **might** / **might be allowed to** + Verb.
> **Direct:** He said, "Let me come in."
> **Indirect:** He requested that he **might** come in.

**Rule 3: Must থাকলে**
সাধারণত `must` থাকলে `had to` বসে। তবে চিরকালীন বাধ্যবাধকতা বোঝালে `must` অপরিবর্তিত থাকে।
> **Direct:** He said, "I must go."
> **Indirect:** He said that he **had to** go.

**Rule 4: Vocative Case (কাউকে সম্বোধন করা)**
কাউকে নাম ধরে বা সম্পর্ক ধরে ডাকলে `Addressing as` ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
> **Direct:** "Friends, listen to me," he said.
> **Indirect:** **Addressing them as friends**, he told them to listen to him.

**Rule 5: Sir / Madam থাকলে**
`Respectfully` বা `With respect` ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
> **Direct:** The boy said to the teacher, "Sir, lend me your pen."
> **Indirect:** The boy requested the teacher **respectfully** to lend him his pen.

**Rule 6: Yes / No থাকলে**
* Yes = `Replied in the affirmative`
* No = `Replied in the negative`
> **Direct:** He said to me, "Have you done it?" I said, "No."
> **Indirect:** He asked me if I had done it. I **replied in the negative**.

**Rule 7: Good morning / Good bye**
* Good morning/evening = `wished`
* Good bye/night = `bade`
> **Direct:** He said, "Good morning, my friends."
> **Indirect:** He **wished** his friends good morning.
>
> **Direct:** He said, "Good bye, mother."
> **Indirect:** He **bade** his mother good bye.

এই নিয়মগুলো আয়ত্ত করতে পারলে যেকোনো নারেশন পরিবর্তন করা সহজ হবে।
