Study Visit to Tropical Homes Amorapuri, Banasree, Dhaka
The Department of Architecture, Northern University of Business and Technology, Khulna (NUBTK), organized an academic study visit on 9 August 2026 for the students of 5th Year, 1st Semester, accompanied by their studio course teacher, to the condominium residential project โTropical Homes Amorapuriโ located in Banasree, Dhaka.
The project was designed by the renowned architectural consultancy firm Dcon Design Studio, which was solely responsible for its architectural design. The visit provided students with an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of various architectural, spatial, structural, landscape, and construction-related aspects of the project.
The academic session commenced with an informative address by Lecturer Sayed Imtiaz Ahamed, who provided students with valuable insights into the architectural and professional considerations involved in the project. Throughout the visit, students were encouraged to observe, analyze, and critically evaluate the relationship between architectural design, structural systems, spatial organization, and practical implementation.
A significant part of the visit focused on the basement parking facilities, where students gained practical understanding of parking layouts, vehicular circulation, ramp design, basement floor-to-floor height, driveway loops, and functional planning. The students also explored the ground-floor and rooftop landscape areas, where the project site engineer, Mr. Hasan, provided detailed explanations regarding the landscape design, planning, and practical implementation.
The study visit served as an important bridge between academic knowledge and professional practice. It enabled students to develop a deeper understanding of contemporary architectural practice in Bangladesh, particularly in relation to ergonomics, spatial planning, structural efficiency, climate-responsive design, material selection, environmental considerations, and user-oriented solutions.
Such practical exposure is an integral part of architectural education, as it allows students to understand how theoretical concepts developed within the academic environment are translated into functional and buildable architectural solutions. The experience also encouraged students to critically examine the integration of architectural and structural systems within a contemporary residential development.
The Department of Architecture, NUBTK, regularly organizes academic study visits and field-based learning activities to strengthen the connection between architectural education and professional practice. The department expresses its sincere gratitude to the NUBTK authority, the authorities of Tropical Homes Amorapuri, and Dโcon Design Studio for their valuable cooperation and support in facilitating this educational visit.
The visit concluded as a meaningful academic experience, providing the students with valuable practical knowledge and a broader understanding of the responsibilities and challenges involved in contemporary architectural practice.
