The Department of Architecture, KUET proudly congratulates Shuvro Kumar Ghosh ( Batch 2K21) on earning an Honorary Mention in the Interior Design Category at the 18th AYDA International Awards, held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Organized under Nippon Paint’s global CSR initiative, AYDA (Asia Young Designer Awards) is one of the world's most prestigious platforms for emerging designers and architects. This year’s theme, “CONVERGE: Crafting Cultural Legacies,” attracted more than 9,000 submissions from 17 countries, making this recognition a remarkable international achievement.

Shuvro’s project, “Threads of Hope,” proposes a community-based design intervention to revive the traditional craft of Nakshi Kantha in Jamalpur, Bangladesh. Through a decentralized courtyard-based artisan hub, or Nokshipolli, the project addresses challenges faced by rural women artisans, including inadequate workspaces, unfair wages, and economic insecurity.

Using locally available materials such as earth, bamboo, woven mats, and textile waste, the design creates a sustainable and climate-responsive environment where artisans can independently produce, exhibit, and market their craft. By strengthening cultural identity while promoting economic empowerment and social dignity, the project demonstrates how design can contribute meaningfully to community development.

This international recognition reflects the creativity, social commitment, and design excellence nurtured within our department. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Shuvro and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.

As part of the Construction Details course for the 2nd Year 1st Term, the students of Batch '23 visited the construction site of the new academic building currently under construction at KUET.

The visit provided an opportunity to observe real-life construction processes, structural components, and on-site detailing beyond the classroom environment. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.

We extend our sincere thanks to our lecturers - Abdullah Mohammad Islam, Abdul Kayum, and Prasenjeet Sarkar Anik for accompanying us, and to Engr. Md. Rumen Rayhan for facilitating the visit smoothly.

We are delighted to share that Md Rifat Mahmud, a graduate from the 2K18 batch, has received a “Top 10 Select Mention” at the Architecture Thesis Award 2025, organized by Mango Architecture Competition, among over 900 global submissions.

His undergraduate thesis, “Crisis to Conservation: A Water Research & Awareness Centre for Sustainable Water Management in Bangladesh,” critically addresses the paradox of water in Bangladesh—a deltaic nation rich in rivers, yet facing severe challenges in safe water accessibility due to mismanagement and fragmented systems.
The project identifies the absence of region-specific institutional frameworks, despite the division of the country into hydrological zones by WARPO. In response, it proposes a Water Research & Awareness Centre as a regional prototype that integrates research, policy, and community engagement to translate knowledge into local action.
Developed for the southwest region (Khulna), one of the most vulnerable areas affected by salinity, pollution, and groundwater stress, the design envisions architecture as a living water system. Strategies such as rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, constructed wetlands, and Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) are embedded within the spatial experience, transforming the building into an active learning environment.

Thesis Supervisor: Apurba Kumar Sen

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Md Rifat Mahmud and wish him continued success.
