গত ৯ অক্টোবর, ২০২৪ তারিখে, তাসনিম জাহান আইরিন এবং নুসরাত জাহান জেরিন বাড্ডায় তাদের অফিসের সামনে আকাশ পরিবহনের বেপরোয়া বাসের ধাক্কায় পড়েন। আইরিন ঘটনাস্থলেই প্রাণ হারান, গুরুতর আহত হন জেরিন।

এখন আমাদের প্রশ্নঃ ২০১৯ সালে বিইউপি শিক্ষার্থী আবরারের মৃত্যুর পরও কীভাবে সেই একই বাস কোম্পানি 'সুপ্রভাত পরিবহন', নতুন নাম ‘আকাশ পরিবহন’ ও ‘ভিক্টর ক্লাসিক’ হয়ে এখনো রাস্তায় প্রাণ কেড়ে নিচ্ছে? কিভাবে 'আশরাফুল ইসলাম' এখনো একই রুট পারমিট ব্যবহার করে বাসগুলো চালানো অব্যাহত রেখেছেন?

২০১৯ সালে সুপ্রিম কোর্টের রায় হওয়ার পাঁচ বছর পেরিয়ে যাওয়া সত্ত্বেও, সেই একই বেপরোয়া বাসগুলো এখনও কীভাবে আমাদের সড়কে আতঙ্ক ছড়াচ্ছে, দিনের পর দিন কেড়ে নিচ্ছে অসংখ্য নিস্পাপ প্রাণ?

আইরিনের মৃত্যুর দিন ২৫টি বাস এবং বাসগুলোর চালকদের আটক করা হয়। তদন্তে বেরিয়ে আসে ভয়ঙ্কর কিছু তথ্য:

•⁠ বাসগুলোর কোনোটিরই সঠিক কাগজপত্র ছিল না।
•⁠ ১৭ জন চালকের মধ্যে ১৪ জনের বৈধ লাইসেন্স ছিল না।
•⁠ কিছু বাসের চালক ছিল হেলপার বা সহকারী, যাদের প্রয়োজনীয় প্রশিক্ষণ ছিল না।
•⁠ কোনো বাসই রাস্তায় চলার উপযোগী ছিল না।

আর কত প্রাণ হারালে এই ‘হত্যাকাণ্ড’ বন্ধ হবে? এখনই সময় সকলের নিরাপত্তা রক্ষায় পদক্ষেপ নেওয়ার, কারণ আজ ১০ অক্টোবরও, যেন কিছুই ঘটেনি এমন ভাবেই বাসগুলো আবার রাস্তায় ফিরে এসেছে। ২০১৯ এ আমরা কোন পরিবর্তন আনতে পারিনি, কিন্তু এই ২০২৪ এর নতুন বাংলাদেশে এসেও, আমরা কি আমাদের প্রিয়জনদের বাঁচাতে আবারো ব্যর্থ হব?

Sisters Tasnim Jahan Irene and Jerin were hit by speeding Akash Paribahan buses in front of their office at Pragati Sarani on Oct 9th, 2024. Irene tragically lost her life, while Jerin was severely injured.

This raises the question: how is it possible that after the tragic death of BUP student Abrar in 2019, the same bus company, Suprobhat Paribahan, can still operate under new names like ‘Akash Paribahan’ and ‘Victor Classic’, and with "Ashraful Islam" still using the same route permit?

Despite a Supreme Court verdict in 2019, five years have passed, and these reckless buses continue to terrorize our roads with mindless murders every other month.

On the day Irene died, 25 buses and their drivers were detained. During the investigation, shocking details emerged:

•⁠ ⁠None of the buses had proper documentation.
•⁠ ⁠14 out of 17 drivers did not have valid licenses.
•⁠ ⁠Some buses were driven by conductors or helpers with no proper training.
•⁠ ⁠None of the buses were fit to be on the road.

How many more lives must be lost before these ‘murders’ are stopped? It's time we take action to protect everyone, because as of today, October 10th, they return to the roads like nothing ever happened. We failed to change the system in 2019, but now, in the reformed Bangladesh, will we fail again?

কয়েকদিন আগে জর্জ অরওয়েলের ‘এনিম্যাল ফার্ম’ বইটা শেষ করেছিলাম। কিভাবে এক স্বৈরাচারের পতনের পর আরেক স্বৈরাচার সৃষ্টি হয়, তা বোঝার জন্য ভালো বই। সে বইয়ের ফরমুলা অনুসারে কিভাবে স্টেপ বাই স্টেপ ডায়লগ বদলায় তার নমুনা:

১. ’ছাত্রদের অভিনন্দন, তারা বিজয় এনেছে’

২. ’বিজয়ের পিছনে ছাত্রদের যেমন অবদান, সমান অবদান দেশের জনতার’

৩. ’ছাত্র-জনতাকে বিজয়ের জন্য অভিনন্দন, সাথে অভিনন্দন ত্যাগী কর্মীদের’

৪. ’অভিনন্দন আমাদের নেতাকে, যিনি প্রথম থেকেই ছাত্র-জনতার পাশে ছিলেন’

৫. ’আমাদের নেতার ডাকে যে আন্দোলনের সূচনা, তার মাধ্যমে বিজয় ছিনিয়ে আনার জন্য ছাত্র-জনতাকে অভিনন্দন’

৬. ’কতিপয় ছাত্র যা শুরু করেছিল, তা সফলভাবে সমাপ্ত করার জন্য আমাদের দলকে অভিনন্দন’

৭. ’আমাদের নেতার আন্দোলনকে সংহত করুন’

৮. ’আমাদের নেতার বিরুদ্ধে যারা কথা বলে, তারা দেশের শত্রু’

৯. ’ছাত্ররূপী দালালদের রুখে দেয়ার জন্য আমাদের নেতার হাত শক্তিশালী করতে হবে’
