Why Korea Was Split in Two? The 38th Parallel Mystery Explained
Why is Korea divided into North and South today?
After Japan’s defeat in World War II, Korea was suddenly split along the 38th parallel by the United States and the Soviet Union. What was meant to be temporary turned into one of the most dangerous divisions in history.
This documentary explores how a simple line drawn in 1945 led to the creation of North Korea and South Korea, the outbreak of the Korean War, and the lasting tension that still exists today.
📍 Includes detailed map animations and historical context.

Korea Was Split in 30 Minutes 😳 | The 38th Parallel Truth
In 1945, two US officers drew a line across Korea in just 30 minutes.
That line — the 38th parallel — divided an entire nation overnight.
One side became North Korea, ruled by a dictatorship.
The other became South Korea, one of the world's richest countries.
A 30-minute decision changed millions of lives forever.
How did this happen?

Even though the picture is AI-generated, it actually does a great job of explaining the geography of the entire subcontinent.
If you look at the left side, it represents South Asia—the Indian subcontinent. You can see a lot of clouds gathered there. These clouds usually come from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. When they hit the massive wall of the Himalayas, they can’t move further, so they release rain across the region. That’s why this side of the map looks so green and full of life, covered with clouds and fertile land (though the river patterns aren’t perfectly accurate).
Now, if you shift your focus to the right side, you’ll notice a completely different picture. It shows the dry and harsh Tibetan Plateau. Cold winds from Siberia try to enter the subcontinent from this direction, but the Himalayas block them and push them back. Because of that, you don’t see clouds on this side. However, the lakes visible there come from melting Himalayan ice.
And if you take a closer look at the Himalayas themselves, there’s a clear contrast—the left side is covered with lush green mountains, often called Himalayan rainforests, while the right side is mostly snow-covered peaks.
