Huge congratulations to our faculty member Dr. Mohammad Arifuzzaman, on achieving his PhD from The Bartlett, University College London (UCL)!

Dr. Arifuzzaman has successfully completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Development Planning from UCL's renowned The Bartlett, Development Planning Unit, supported by the prestigious Commonwealth PhD Scholarship. His highly impactful doctoral research addresses critical, pressing challenges in urban built environment and climate resilience.

Dr. Arifuzzaman has always maintained an exceptional academic track record. Before his journey at UCL, he completed his B. Arch from BUET in 2016 and went on to obtain an M.Sc in Urban Management from TU Berlin, Germany in 2020.

This is a proud moment for the entire DUET community! We are incredibly fortunate to have his advanced expertise back in the Department of Architecture. We believe his global research experience will deeply inspire our students and elevate our academic contributions.

We are honored to host Ar. Salauddin Ahmed in this week’s Thursday Forum, to deliver a lecture on the topic “Architecture and its Otherness.”
Ar. Ahmed is a leading voice in contemporary Bangladeshi architecture whose work operates at the intersection of architecture, art, exhibition design, and critical practice. As the founder of Atelier Robin Architects and a key figure Bengal Institute, he has played a pivotal role in shaping architectural exhibitions, cultural institutions, and spatial narratives in Bangladesh. His work consistently interrogates context, memory, and the boundaries of architectural authorship.

Lecture 10 | Thursday Forum

We are delighted to announce that the Department of Architecture, DUET, is hosting the 10th session of our "Thursday Forum."
For this session, we are honored to have Ar. Saida Akter Mumu (Principal Architect, MATREEK & Secretary, Seminar & Convention, 26th Executive Council, IAB) as our guest speaker. She will be delivering an insightful lecture on the topic: "Passive Design as a Generative Paradigm in Certified Sustainable Architecture."
This is a wonderful opportunity for students and faculty to deepen their understanding of sustainable design principles and professional practice.

We are thrilled to share that a team of four students from Department of Architecture, DUET has secured the Award of “Excellence in Community Impact” in the International Design Competition 🌿A Healing Space arranged by Claymire, in association with Placemaking Bangladesh.

📌Title of the award-winning entry: “কমলার ডাকে মননের পানে”

📌Jurors’ comments: “কমলার ডাকে মননের পানে is a powerful cultural intervention that reclaims the river as a site of memory, identity, and gathering. By reviving a historic paddle steamer not as a relic but as a living vessel of reflection and community, the project restores a long-lost anchor to Dhaka’s riverfront life. The preserved orange hull, echoing gerua, transforms the ship into a beacon of peace and continuity, turning speed into serenity. In doing so, the project renews the cultural heartbeat of the Buriganga, offering the city both heritage and healing in one shared civic space.”

We extend our heartiest congratulations to the team for successfully securing the award, having competed against over 1,000 global participants from 400 teams. The Top 30 designs were showcased, at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, each reimagining how spaces can heal people, communities, and the planet.

Guided by their respected studio teachers, the visit offered a valuable opportunity to explore thoughtful architectural design, sustainable planning, and spatial quality in a real-world context.

We are delighted to announce that Basudeb Sarker (21 Series), Level 03, Term 02, student of the Department of Architecture, DUET, has received the "Observational Award of Distinction" in the prestigious ASAI’s 39th Annual Architecture in Perspective Student Competition.

The AIP Exhibition is an internationally acclaimed platform that showcases outstanding architectural illustrations every year from around the world, celebrating the art of visual storytelling in architecture. Selected Artworks will be featured in the AIP 39 publication and showcased in the printed exhibition during the ASAI Conference, scheduled to take place from October 1st to 3rd, 2025, in Japan.
