The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), Islamic University of Technology is proud to celebrate its remarkable recognitions at the IUT Excellence Award Ceremony 2026, held on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at the IUT campus.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Excellency Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Honourable Vice Chancellor of IUT; and Dr. Hissein Araby Nour, Honourable Pro Vice Chancellor of IUT.

The Department of CEE is delighted to share the following achievements:

Dr. Imran Kabir received the Teaching Excellence Award for his dedication to effective teaching, student engagement, and academic contribution.

Dr. Amimul Ahsan received the Research Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to research, publication, and knowledge creation.

Prof. Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin received special recognition for quality assurance activities, reflecting his sustained contribution to strengthening academic standards, quality systems, and continuous improvement.

Prof. Dr. Hossain Md. Shahin received recognition for his role as a leading Head of the Department and for academic leadership, honoring his contribution to departmental development, academic governance, and institutional progress.

Mr. Md. Sayeed Hasan, Secretary, CEE received the Staff Excellence Award for his service.

The Department of CEE, IUT was also recognized for receiving BAETE-Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education accreditation, marking an important milestone in its continued journey toward quality education, outcome-based learning, and professional engineering standards.

These recognitions reflect the collective efforts of our sincere students, committed faculty members, dedicated staff, and the continuous support of the IUT administration. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients and to the entire CEE, IUT family.

With immense joy and gratitude, we are thrilled to share that our chapter has been recognized as one of the Outstandng Student Chapters, in the 𝐀𝐂𝐈 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 – 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 list by the American Concrete Institute.

This achievement is not just a title , it represents months of dedication, teamwork, late-night planning, creative ideas, technical discussions, and the collective effort of every single member who believed in our vision. From organizing events and workshops to participating in competitions and contributing to our chapter, every small step has led us here.

We are deeply thankful to our mentors and faculty advisors who constantly gave their time and energy.Your support gave us the confidence to try new ideas and maintain high standards. To our executive committee and general members , your hard work, responsibility, and passion are the real foundation of this success. Each contribution, big or small, mattered. This milestone belongs to every one of you.

We were privileged to host Dr. Khan Mahmud Amanat, Professor, Dept. of CE, BUET and Member, Post-Graduate Committee, Dept of CEE, IUT in a book-gifting ceremony today (20/02/2026). Honorable VC of IUT, Professor ​Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam received the distinguished guest in his office.
Professor Amanat recently wrote a book titled "Reinforcement for Modern Concrete Structures" (Published by CRC Press of Taylor and Francis Group). With the support of BSRM, he kindly gifted copies of this book to IUT.
Prof. Amanat noted that this book is aimed at detailed understanding of the reinforcement as the application of modern materials and technologies in reinforcement manufacturing does not get proper attention or consideration.
We believe our students will be greatly benefitted from using the book which will be available in IUT library shortly.

Dept. of CEE, IUT, Islamic University of Technology, with Dr. Nazmus Sakib, Associate Professor, CEE Islamic University of Technology-IUT, OIC, as the Project Lead, has received a funding through Korea Consultant International Co. Ltd.(KCI), Project Implementation Consultant, SASEC Road Connectivity Project-2, with RHD as the ultimate beneficiary, to strengthen quality assurance of SBS Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB), a bituminous binder that has become increasingly popular in Bangladesh’s road programs.
The research focuses on sulfur-based PMB stabilizer chemistry, specially the post-production state of PMB (after initial plant blending, during storage/transport, reheating, and field application) and how these stages influence crosslinking completeness and stability. Better insight into these post-production transformations will help reduce variability, improve reliability, and support more defensible acceptance decisions in practice.

We are happy to share that a team, led by Dr. Nazmus Sakib, Associate Professor, Dept. of CEE, IUT, has been awarded a new research project with Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on:
“𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐋𝐨𝐰-𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.”
Premature peeling of rural road surfacing is often rooted in a weak prime coat interface-not always due to insufficient or inferior binder, but frequently due to moisture presence, material incompatibility, and improper application techniques.
This project will focus on measuring, validating, and strengthening prime coat bonding in the field, ensuring that construction quality is judged not only by how much material is applied, but also by when and how well it is bonded. It will allow LGED engineers to ensure the quality of the work received from the contractors.

The “UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS “ of IUT INTER DEPARTMENT CRICKET TOURNAMENT 2026.

Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (𝐂𝐄𝐄) of Islamic University of Technology-IUT, OIC is pleased to be contributing to one of key pieces of Bangladesh’s long-term, system-wide transport planning through the “𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡” project. This effort is being advanced with the 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐑𝐇𝐃) in coordination with multiple Government agencies and autonomous bodies across the transport ecosystem.
A defining feature of the master plan is its focus on multimodal integration and gradual, practical modal shift, moving beyond excessive dependence on roads toward a more balanced and sustainable use of railways and waterways. The framework explicitly builds on the concept of natural Multi-Modal Hubs (MMHs), locations where river, rail, and road terminals are already clustered within a short radius, so that targeted “missing links” and last-mile improvements can enable phased transitions in passenger and freight movement over time.
Within this national effort, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐥 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝, presented the keynote technical work on the baseline assessment and strategic roadmap at the recent stakeholder seminar convened by RHD on 14th December 2025, an engagement that brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including GoB officials and agencies, sector experts, operators, academia, and representatives from political parties, among others, to strengthen the plan’s ownership and feasibility.
Given the strategic importance of the initiative, the work is also receiving high-level attention and guidance from the 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫, with support from 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐮𝐝, 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐳𝐮𝐥 𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐫 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧, and 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐤 𝐌𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧.
