Ever wondered how Nobel Prize-winning concepts tie into the roads we drive on? Or what the future of our transportation networks will look like?

The IUT ITE Student Chapter is pleased to announce our upcoming seminar, "Paving the Way: An Introduction to Transportation Engineering."

We are incredibly honored to welcome back our esteemed CEE alumnus (Batch '11), Dr. Soumik Nafis Sadeek. Currently an Assistant Professor at IUBAT, with an M.E. and PhD from the prestigious Tokyo Tech (Institute of Science Tokyo), Dr. Sadeek is returning to his roots to share his expertise.

This seminar is thoughtfully designed to offer an accessible and engaging perspective on transportation engineering. Dr. Sadeek will present a foundational overview covering critical areas such as traffic operations and pavement design. By contextualizing complex engineering principles within real-world applications and notable scientific achievements, the session aims to foster a deeper understanding of the field and inspire innovative thinking regarding the future of transportation infrastructure.
We cordially invite all students and faculty members with an interest in the evolving landscape of civil engineering to join us for this insightful session.

A day of pride, a day of pain, a day we earned the right to stand tall.
From the declaration of independence on 26th March 1971 till the nine-month war of liberation, every inch of this land is sacred. The ultimate sacrifice of the lives of the millions of martyrs, the courageous mothers who lost their children, is not forgotten today as we cherish the freedom that they gave us

IUT ITE Student chapter celebrates the day proudly along with the whole country.
Happy Independence Day, Bangladesh.🇧🇩

Roundabouts vs. Traffic Signals: Which Wins?
At first glance, a roundabout might seem like a simple circle. But transportation engineers know it's one of the most effective tools for reducing crashes and improving traffic flow at intersections. Studies consistently show that roundabouts reduce fatal crashes by up to 90% and injury crashes by 75% compared to traditional signalized intersections.
How? At a roundabout, all vehicles move in the same direction and at lower speeds, eliminating the dangerous head-on and right-angle collisions that commonly occur at signal-controlled crossings. There's no temptation to run a red light because there is
NO RED LIGHT!
Beyond safety, roundabouts offer significant operational benefits. They never lose power, require no signal timing adjustments, and handle traffic continuously without stopping entire streams of vehicles. The ITE has been a strong advocate for roundabout adoption, particularly at low to medium volume intersections in urban and suburban areas.
Countries like the UK, France, and Australia have embraced roundabouts for decades. The United States now has over 9,000 modern roundabouts, a number that keeps growing as engineers and planners recognize their superiority over conventional signals.

Ever left for University thinking, “Today I’ll reach early” and still walked into class late?
Not because you were careless.
Not because you left late.
But because somewhere between your house and the campus gate traffic had other plans.
In Bangladesh, traffic isn’t just heavy.
It’s unpredictable.
One day the road is clear.
The next day, the same road barely moves.
Sometimes the road is closed for various movements against injustice in this country.
But what if you could see the problem before you became part of it?
A GPS-based Traffic Monitoring System makes that possible.
The reasons are before our eyes:
1. Shows live vehicle locations on the road
2. Detects where traffic is slowing down
3. Estimates delays before you even reach the jam
4. Helps choose faster, smarter routes
5. Detects upcoming toll-based roads
6. Warns about upcoming delays on the road
This isn’t about removing traffic overnight.
It’s about removing the uncertainty that comes with it.
Because when you know what’s ahead,
You don’t feel stuck.
You feel prepared.

For students rushing to 8 AM classes,
For buses trying to stay on schedule,
For a city like Dhaka that never really stops moving
Sometimes, the smartest solution is simply knowing the road better.

This is where GPS based Traffic Monitoring System comes into action!!!
