🌍 How Classrooms Look Around the World

In the 63-student classroom video, the issue of teachers and resources was raised.

There are a great variety of teaching and learning environments. As you watch, try to interpret and understand the images of learners and their classroom environment. Social and cultural factors and the curriculum will influence the ways children learn and how teachers teach.

In thinking further about teaching, let’s think a bit about classroom space and movement. When you begin to observe, both here and in any classrooms you visit, ask the following questions:
• Where do the teachers place themselves?
• How are the children organised? For instance, are boys and girls sitting together or separated?
• What kinds of uniforms are the children wearing?
• How are the classrooms decorated?
• What do you observe about the relationships between children and teachers – whether these are warm and friendly, or stricter and more hierarchical?
