I am on a bus হইলো; কিন্তু I am in a car কেন হবে!
ব্যাপারটা একটু মনযোগ দিবেন,
ট্রান্সপোর্টের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা তিনটা বিষয় খেয়াল করে Preposition ইউস করি!
প্রথব বিষয়ঃ কোনো ট্রান্সপোর্টের উপরে বসা বুঝালে সেক্ষেত্রে সরাসরি বসবেঃ
যেমন, I was on a bike.
I was on a bicycle.
I was on a horse.

২য় বিষয়ঃ কোনো ট্রান্সপোর্টে যদি মুভমেন্ট করার মত জায়গা থাকে, যেখানে হাটাচলা করা যায়, তাহলে এদের আগে বসবে,
যেমনঃ I was on a bus.
I was on a train.
I was on a ship.
I was on an airplane.

৩য় বিষয়ঃ কোনো ট্রান্সপোর্টে যদি আটোসাটো হয়ে বা সীটবেল্ট লাগিয়ে বসে থাকতে হয়, এদের আগে বসে।
যেমনঃ I was in a car.
I was in a van.
I was in a taxi.

….and hello, I'm Neil.

Jiaying

Hey, Neil, have you heard what Roy has planned for our Christmas party this year?

Neil

Oh no, not axe throwing again!?

Jiaying

Maybe not. We did it last year. This year we're doing karaoke at our Christmas party. Roy is already practising singing some songs by Ariana Grande!

Neil

I do not like the sound of that!

Jiaying

What's wrong? Do you not like the sound of Roy's singing?

Neil

No! I mean, I don't like the idea of doing karaoke. When you 'don't like the sound of something' it means you don't like something you have been told or read about.

Jiaying

I've got it. Well, hopefully, Neil, you'll like the sound of these examples!

Examples

We've been told to start work an hour earlier - I do not like the sound of that.

I don't like the sound of that new shopping centre - it's going to increase the amount of traffic around here.

I didn't like the sound of Enrique's camping trip - it involved walking ten kilometres with our tents!

Jiaying

This is The English We Speak from BBC Learning English and we're hearing about the expression 'not like the sound of something', which means you 'don't like something you have been told or read about'. So, Neil, why don't you like the sound of doing karaoke?

Neil

I can't sing.

Jiaying

Don't be boring - it could be fun! Maybe you could do a duet with Roy?

Neil

I definitely don't like the sound of that!

Jiaying

Hmm, it's impossible to please everyone at the Christmas party. Maybe we should just have a meal together and talk to each other?

Neil

Now, I do like the sound of that. Right, I'm off…

Jiaying

Where are you going?

Neil

To book that table at the restaurant. Bye.

Jiaying

Bye, Neil.

কোনো সমস্যা? রায়ের গানের আওয়াজ আপনার ভালো লাগে না?

নিল

না! মানে, আমি কারাওকে করার ধারণা পছন্দ করি না। যখন আপনি 'কোন কিছুর শব্দ পছন্দ করেন না' তার মানে আপনি এমন কিছু পছন্দ করেন না যা আপনাকে বলা হয়েছে বা পড়া হয়েছে।

জিয়ায়িং

আমি এইটা পাইছি. ওয়েল, আশা করি, নিল, আপনি এই উদাহরণের শব্দ পছন্দ করবেন!

উদাহরণ

আমাদের এক ঘণ্টা আগে কাজ শুরু করতে বলা হয়েছে - আমি এর শব্দ পছন্দ করি না।

আমি সেই নতুন শপিং সেন্টারের শব্দ পছন্দ করি না - এটি এখানে ট্রাফিকের পরিমাণ বাড়িয়ে দেবে।

আমি এনরিকের ক্যাম্পিং ট্রিপের শব্দ পছন্দ করিনি - এতে আমাদের তাঁবুর সাথে দশ কিলোমিটার হাঁটা জড়িত ছিল!

এটি হল বিবিসি শেখার ইংরেজি থেকে আমরা কথা বলি এবং আমরা 'কোনো কিছুর শব্দ পছন্দ করি না' এই অভিব্যক্তিটি শুনছি, যার মানে 'আপনাকে যা বলা হয়েছে বা পড়া হয়েছে তা আপনি পছন্দ করেন না'। তাহলে, নিল, তুমি কারাওকে করার শব্দ পছন্দ করো না কেন?
