পারমাণবিক বোমার বিস্ফোরণে সব গাছ মারা গেলেও বাঁশ বেঁচে থাকে। কারণ বাঁশের শিকড় মাটির এত গভীরে যায় যে পর্যন্ত তেজস্ক্রিয়তা পৌঁছায় না। হিরোশিমা ও নাকাশাকিতে পারমাণবিক বোমার বিস্ফোরণীয় বাঁশ টিকে ছিল।
