The Secret Passages of Lalbagh Fort

Lalbagh Fort, a 16th-century Mughal structure in Dhaka, holds several historical mysteries, particularly its secret underground passages, now sealed. These passages, according to legend, once led to the ruined Zinzira Fort across the Buriganga River. Some passages were designed as mazes to trap and starve intruders. During the Sepoy Revolution of 1857, many sepoys and British soldiers perished in these tunnels while trying to escape or pursue enemies. British researchers later sent an elephant and dogs into the tunnels, but they never returned. The passages were permanently sealed, and their true purpose remains unknown.
