We pride ourselves on being logical, believing that every decision we make is the result of deliberate thought. However, modern psychology and neuroscience suggest otherwise. The human mind is like an iceberg—the part we see and understand is only a fraction of the whole.

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐱: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜
This is our "Rational Brain," the seat of higher-order thinking. It functions as our internal planner, helping us:
• Analyze complex data and solve intricate problems.
• Anticipate future outcomes by weighing pros and cons.
• Regulate impulses to make objective, balanced decisions.
𝘌𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦: 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴.

𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭
While we value logic, our 𝐀𝐦𝐲𝐠𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐚 —the core of the "Irrational Brain"—often takes the wheel. It operates on lightning-fast emotional responses rather than cold facts:
• 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭: It triggers the "Fight or Flight" response before we even realize we are in danger.
• 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬: It is the source of sudden rage, paralyzing fear, or instant attraction.
• 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐚𝐬: It drives us to act first and think later.

𝟑. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐕𝐬. 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡𝐬
Psychologists use the iceberg metaphor to explain the duality of our mind:
• 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝: The visible tip above the water. It represents our current awareness—what we think we are in control of right now.
• 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝: The massive, submerged base. This is a vast reservoir of lifelong memories, deep-seated fears, ingrained habits, and core beliefs.
• 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Interestingly, we often make snap judgments based on subconscious biases and then use our conscious mind to "rationalize" or create a logical story to justify those actions. This is known as 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐡𝐨𝐜 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬?
Humans are a walking paradox. We are capable of sending rockets to Mars, yet we often fall prey to blind superstition or irrational anger. Our lives are governed more by automated, subconscious programs than by active logic. To truly master ourselves, we must look beneath the surface and bridge the gap between our reason and our hidden emotions.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘢𝘯. 𝘛𝘰 𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯—𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴—𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘴𝘵, 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩.
