๐ Let's talk about something that has sneaked up on all of us: Portion Distortion. ๐๐ฅค
Have you ever noticed that restaurant plates seem to be getting larger, and "small" drinks are what used to be considered "large"? Over the last few decades, standard serving sizes for many foods and drinks have doubled or even tripled!
At the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living (COOL) Lab, we know that our eyes often trick our stomachs. When we are served more, we tend to eat moreโoften without even realizing it! This "portion distortion" is a major hidden factor in childhood obesity.
Simple Tip: You don't always have to clear your plate! Try serving meals on slightly smaller plates at home, or share a meal when eating out. Itโs a simple visual trick that helps tune into natural fullness cues. ๐ฝ๏ธ
Tell us in the comments: What is one food where youโve really noticed the portion sizes getting out of control? ๐ Let's discuss!

Happy Independence Day, Bangladesh! ๐ง๐ฉโจ
Today, we honor the immense sacrifices of our brave freedom fighters who gave us an independent nation. As we celebrate our liberty, we must also remember that a truly strong nation is a healthy nation.
At the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living Lab (COOL Lab), our tribute to this great country is our commitment to its future. We are dedicated to fighting non-communicable diseases, promoting the 24-hour movement guidelines, and ensuring that our next generation grows up strong, active, and capable of taking Bangladesh to new heights.
Freedom gave us the canvas; optimal health gives us the power to paint a brighter future.

๐ We often think about food, but did you know what you drink is just as important for your metabolism? Staying hydrated is essential for your body's internal systems, acting like the vital fluid that keeps your "metabolic engine" running smoothly.
When your cells have enough water, they can break down nutrients, regulate temperature, and convert food into energy much more effectively!
Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink up! Keep a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day and make water your go-to beverage.
Simple trick: Have a big glass of water first thing in the morning. Let's make it an optimal habit!
Tell us in the comments: How many glasses of water have you had today? Drop an emoji to let us know! ๐ (Thirsty, Glass of water, Person drinking). Let's hydrate together!

๐ Do you ever get confused by all the talk about "macros"? Carbohydrates, proteins, fatsโฆ what do they actually do, and how should they fit onto your child's plate?
At the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living (COOL) Lab, we make it simple! Think of your body as an incredible machine, and these are the essential fuel types it needs to run smoothly, grow strong, and stay active. A balanced plate is all about combining these correctly.
Itโs about simple, consistent swaps, not crash diets.
Tell us in the comments: What is the trickiest 'macro' to get your family to eat? For us, itโs sometimes getting those healthy fats in! ๐ Let's build healthy habits together!

๐ Ever wondered if those "healthy" granola bars are as good for your kids as they seem?
The labels say "whole grain" and "organic," but a closer look at the ingredients might surprise you. At the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living (COOL) Lab, we want to help you spot the hidden sugar! Companies use over 60 different names for sugar, and often we buy snacks thinking they are healthier than they are.
Simple swaps to whole foods can make a big difference! Letโs empower ourselves to make truly optimal choices.
Tell us in the comments: What is a "healthy" snack you were surprised to find out was high in sugar? ๐

๐ Let's tackle that tricky number: BMI.
Youโve probably heard of Body Mass Index (BMI). For decades, it's been the go-to tool to screen for overweight and obesity in children and adults. But is it the whole picture? ๐ค
At the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living (COOL) Lab, we believe in looking at the whole person. While BMI is a useful first step, it has limitations. It doesn't tell us about body compositionโthe difference between muscle and fat. It doesn't show where fat is stored. It's a screening tool, not a full health diagnosis.
Think of it as a helpful check engine light, but not the detailed diagnostic report. For our kids, we need to focus on healthy habits, not just a single number on a chart.
Tell us in the comments: What is your biggest question about BMI? ๐ Let's clear up the confusion!

๐ Today is "World Obesity Day".
Letโs talk about the future of our children's health.
Globally, the environments our kids are growing up in are changing rapidly, making it harder for them to access the nutrition and active lifestyles they need. But at the Childhood Obesity and Optimal Living (COOL) Lab, we are taking action right here at home.
Based at the Canadian University of Bangladesh, our lab is completely driven by a passion for community health.
How are we making a difference? Instead of just talking about the issue, our incredible student research volunteers are hitting the field. We are conducting rigorous, ethical data collection to truly understand the daily health challenges our communities face.
By training our team to gather accurate, on-the-ground research, we are building the evidence needed to create healthier environments and promote "optimal living" for every child.
๐ก๐Childhood obesity is a big challenge, but with localized research and community dedication, we can rewrite the narrative.
Join us in supporting the next generation of public health advocates! ๐ฑ

Event Recap: A Comprehensive Journey Through the Research Lifecycle
We are delighted to share the outcomes of our Training on Data Collection, successfully conducted this past Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Running from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM, this session was a deep dive into the "how" and "why" of rigorous research. Led by Lab Head and Principal Investigator Mohammad Hamid Al Muktadir , the training covered:
โ The Full Lifecycle: From hypothesis to analysis, and Ethical Standards.
โ Bridging the Gap: A strong focus on practical field simulations to reduce the distance between classroom knowledge and on-ground reality.
๐ A Special Vote of Thanks Success is a team effort. We want to express our deepest thanks to:
Our Sponsor: HEART, for making this event possible and providing verified certificates.
Our Participants & Volunteers: Thank you for your energy, engagement, and willingness to learn. You are the backbone of our research!
