In a month full of debate tournaments, the young guns of IBA-DU left their mark with immense grit.
In ACC Genesis 2025, one of the most competitive tournaments in recent times, IBA DU A, consisting of Ariana, Fatiha, and Nafis, managed an incredible semi-finals run. Moreover, Nafis ended up as the 9th best speaker of the tournament.
In BDC-BUETDC Pre-UADC 2025, IBA DU C had an incredible semi-finals run. We congratulate Yameen, Riz, and Raiyan on their remarkable run. Moreover, Nafis and Ahmar Biswas (BBA 33) became the 5th and 6th best speakers, respectively.
Congratulations to all involved, and a special shout-out to our young debaters from BBA 33—Ariana, Ahmar, Arinjoy, Nuhal, and Muhaimin—for breaking into the debate scene within months of entering IBA and making us all proud.

The IBA DU Debate Contingent put up a formidable collective display in the NSUDC Dialogue 2024, an open debate tournament organized by the NSU Debate Club.
Team IBA DU A, consisting of Jawaadul Islam (BBA 30) and Basmah Zora (BBA 31), had an impressive run to the open finals, where they closely missed out on the championship. Basmah Zora became the tenth-best speaker of the tournament.
Team IBA DU C, consisting of Nafis Hasan Ruman and Syeda Tanzeeha Sajida from BBA 32, made it all the way to the tournament's semi-finals. This feat was particularly impressive considering this is Tanzeeha's second-ever debate tournament. Nafis put up an incredible individual display, becoming the sixth-best speaker of the tournament.
Team IBA DU B had Yameen Rakib and Tahmid Ahmed, a debutant. This team, also from BBA 32, ended their run in the preliminary rounds with promising performances.
Besides, two other debaters participated from separate composite teams. From both of those teams, Farhat Fatiha Chowdhury (BBA 32) and Shadab Imtiaz (BBA 31) made it to the Pre-Semi Finals with their rhetorical brilliance.
Congratulations to all the debaters, especially BBA 32 for bringing life to the club with their energy, enthusiasm, and debating skills!

Raiha Nawal, a prominent figure in the Bangladesh debating community, has recently been in a near-fatal accident in Morocco, where she broke her neck and damaged her spinal cord. After an emergency surgery, she was stabilized but was left paralyzed from the neck down.
Raiha is a UK resident, but is currently undergoing treatment in Morocco and the short term costs are approximately 60,000 GBP (~ BDT 75 lacs) which includes emergency spinal surgery, post-op costs, and the cost for an air ambulance to take her to the UK.
There will also be enormous costs once she moves to the UK, including professional care support, adjustments to the home to incorporate automated bed, wheelchair etc. These costs may rise up to 80,000 GBP (~ BDT 1 crore) over the next 18 months. Raiha is currently not a UK citizen, and thus will also not be able to avail state support.
Raiha needs our help to continue her treatment.
She was one of the finest debaters of Bangladesh in her time, and represented University of Dhaka in the ESL Finals of the World Universities Debating Championship in 2015. She has mentored numerous debaters of the current generation, and is a widely respected figure within our community. Raiha is also one of the kindest and liveliest human beings you’re ever likely to come across.
In this time of need, let us all come forward to help Raiha and her family.
