The Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2026 National Competition was successfully held on April 24, 2026 at the Institute of Appropriate Technology (IAT), BUET, commencing at 8:30 AM. The event brought together some of the most promising young innovators from across the country, showcasing their research and solutions to pressing water-related challenges.
With the launch of its 12th season on 1 November of previous year, the competition saw participation from numerous school and college teams nationwide, with members aged 15 to 20. Out of 53 submitted project proposals, 6 were selected for the final round after an independent and transparent evaluation process.
The competition was evaluated by an esteemed panel of jury members comprising distinguished experts from academia, development organizations, and international institutions. The jury board included Nayรถka Martinez Bรคckstrรถm, First Secretary Environment & Climate Change and Deputy Head, Development Cooperation Section, Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka; Professor Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, Director, IAT-BUET, and Project Manager, ESTex; Mohammad Monirul Alam, WES Officer, UNICEF Bangladesh; Abdullah Al Muyeed, Chief Operating Officer, CWIS-FSM Support Cell, DPHE; Dr. Sara Nowreen, Professor, Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET; and Dr. Asef Mohammad Redwan, Assistant Professor, Civil Environmental Engineering, North South University.
A total of six finalist teams competed in the national round, representing leading educational institutions from across Bangladesh. The participating teams included Team Inonova, represented by Aranya Abeer Khan Prapya and S.M. Mushfiq Rahman Araf from Dhaka Residential Model College; Team Rizz-O-Sphere, represented by Fahad Mahmud from Dhaka Residential Model College and Asif Al Momen Chowdhury from Dhaka College; Team Epsilon, represented by Amrito Gabriel Toppo from Notre Dame College; Team The Salting Out, represented by Areeb Bin Faruque from BAF Shaheen College Dhaka; Team FAUJIAN, represented by Mushfiqur Rahman from Faujdarhat Cadet College; and Team Captain Obvious, represented by Mohammad Nafis Fuad from Notre Dame College, Dhaka.
Each team presented innovative and research-driven projects addressing water sustainability, quality, and management, reflecting a high level of scientific inquiry and commitment toward solving real-world environmental challenges.
The Bangladesh Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a prestigious national-level competition that aims to identify and nurture young water scientists. The winning team will go on to represent Bangladesh at the international competition Stockholm Junior Water Prize, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), where participants from around the world compete for global recognition. The winning team at the international level receives prize money worth USD 15,000.
The competition is organized nationally by the House of Volunteers Foundation Bangladesh (HOV). This yearโs event was supported by ITN-BUET as the Strategic Partner, ESTex as the Technical Partner, The Business Standard as the Media Partner, and WaterAid Bangladesh as the Co-organizer.
