প্রোপার বিল্ডিং কোড Follow করে একটি বিল্ডিংয়ের retrofitting কাজ চলমান। এই প্রজেক্টে কলাম ও ফাইন্ডেশ দুটোই একই সাথে রেট্রোফিট হয়েছেম বিগত কিছু মাস আগেই আমরা RSC থেকে এই বিল্ডিং এর কাজ approval করিয়েছি।

আমাদের দেশে প্রচলিত যে কিচেন ব্যবস্থা আছে, সেগুলোর geometry তে তাকালে যেটা দেখা যায় যে, একদম জানালার পাশেই চুলা বসানো থাকে। যেটা completely wrong practice. এভাবে চুল রাখলে যেটা হয় যেঃ
১. Stove heat efficiency অনেক কমে যায়
২. Fire flame বাতাশের কারনে ছড়িয়ে দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে যেতে পারে।

Good practice হল জানালার সামনের যায়গা খালি রাখা অথবা সেখানে সিংক বা বাসন রাখার rake রাখা। নিছে 3D যে ছবি + সাদা কালো যে image আছে, এই concept গুলোই হল standard practice.

বিল্ডিং structure design এর ক্ষেত্রে Uplift force একটি term আছে, যেটা basically steel structure এর সাথে খুব বেশি রিলেটেড। আরো specific ভাবে যদি বলি steel shed/ware house এর ক্ষেত্রে এই term টি খুবি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
ধরেন প্রচন্ড ঝড়ো বাতাস এর বৃষ্টির সময় আপনি একটি ছাতা নিয়ে বের হয়েছেন। বাতাসের ঝাপটায় আপনার হাতে থাকা ছাতাটি বার বার উড়ে যেতে ছাইবে। কিন্তু ছাতার নিছে শক্ত করে ধরে রাখার কারনে সেটি উড়ে গিয়ে অন্য স্থানে গিয়ে পড়বে না। বাতাসের যে পরিমান বেগের জন্য ছাতাটি উড়ে যেতে চায়, সেই বেগের গতিটাই মুলত “Uplift force”

RCC বিল্ডিং গুলোর নিজস্ব self weight অনেক বেশি হয়ে থাকে, কারনে বাতাশের প্রচন্ড বেগ থাকার শর্তেও বিল্ডিং গুলোর নিজস্ব ওজন বেশি হওয়ায় তেমন কোন effect পড়েনা। পক্ষান্তরে ষ্টীলের শেড structure গুলোর পুরো বডিটাই steel এর হওয়ায় এদের comparative weight RCC structure থেকেও অনেক কম হয়। ফলে proper engineering judgement follow না করে এসব structure construction করা হলে বাতাসের প্রচন্ড বেগে low height এর এই structure গুলো উলটে যেতে পারে।
যেমনটা হয় গ্রামের দিকে প্রচন্ড বাতাসে ঘরের টিনের চাল উড়ে যাওয়া। কারনটা হল কোন প্রকার engineering judgement ছাড়াই তৈরি হয় সেই বাসাগুলো।

স্টীল স্ট্রাকচারের মধ্যে sloped roof type ( sloped roof বলতে ঢালু বুঝানো হয়েছে ) যেসব structure রয়েছে, সেগুলোতে উপরের টিন সাপোর্ট দেওয়ার জন্য Rafter এর সাথে additional আরেকটি মেম্বার connect করে দেওয়া হয়। যেটাকে engineering ভাষায় purlin বলে । এই purlin মেম্বার গুলো মোটা দাগে দুই ধরনের হয়ে থাকে। একটি হল C shaped purlin আরেকটি হল Z shaped purlin। Engineering judgement উনুযায়ী C purling থেকে Z purlin এর structural capacity অনেক বেশি। তবে ক্ষেত্র বিশেষে non engineered purlin ও ব্যাবহার করা হয়ে থাকে খরচ কমানোর জন্য। যেমনঃ angle purlin, pipe purling, thin box purlin etc. Rafter এর সাথে connected থাকার জন্য যেই মেম্বারের নাম হয়ে যায় purlin, সেটাই আবার steel column এর সাথে connected হয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য হয়ে যায় wall girt.

ষ্টীল স্টাকচারের ক্ষেত্রে বিল্ডিং টাইপ যদি seismic design category D তে হয়, কিংবা ফ্রেমিং সিষ্টেম করতে গিয়ে যদি special category তে পড়ে, তবে কানেকশন ডিজাইনের ক্ষেত্রে মেসিব আকারে পরিবর্তন আসে ,যেটা কিনা সাধারন steel structure connection যেমন, তার থেকে একটু ভিন্ন হয়ে থাকে। এক্ষেত্রে অনেকগুলো requirement আছে, তার মধ্যে একটি হল beam to column connections. According to Bangladesh National building code 2020 (BNBC 2020) article 10.2.9.2.1,
১. উক্ত কানেকশনকে অবশ্যই inter story drift এর জন্য at least 0.04 radian angle পর্যন্ত sustain করতে হবে।
২. কানেকশনে flexural resistance capacity অবশ্যই কমপক্ষে 0.80Mp unit force-unit length এর সমান হতে হবে । (এখানে Mp হল nominal plastic flexural strength যেটার mathematical expression হল Fy*Z that means yield strength of steel member times section modulus)
৩. Connection টির shear strength (earth quake এর জন্য) নেওয়ার capacity হতে হবে E=2[1.1RyMp]/Lh (eq 6.1.298_BNBC 2020 chapter 10)
তাছাড়া, seismic connection এর আরো অনেক requirement আছে , যা কিনা as per code অনুযায়ী satisfy করতে হয়,
