We are thrilled to announce that Payel from our Level-5, Term-1 Student has been named a ‘Finalist’ in the Interior Design category at the AYDA Awards (Asia Young Designer Award) Bangladesh 2025, organized by Nippon Paint Bangladesh.
Her exceptional work secured a position among the top six finalists out of 150 submissions from across the country. Her project, “Heritage Trail: Experiential Journey Through Crafting Cultural Storytelling,” reimagines heritage as a lived, human-centered experience rather than a static display. Through a walkable journey guided by spatial flow, the project connects the past and present through everyday practices, crafts, and sensory engagement. The design fosters awareness and responsibility toward preserving daily traditions, encouraging visitors to reflect on the cultural legacy they help shape for the future.
The esteemed jury panel for this competition included Professor Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed, Professor Zakiul Islam, Ar. Bayezid M. Khondoker, Ar. SM Nazimuddin Payel, Ar. NR Khan, Mr. Shariar Iqbal Raj, and Ar. Tanya Karim, with Ar. Rafiq Azam attending as a distinguished guest.

We are delighted to share that the Department of Architecture, Sonargaon University proudly celebrates the achievement of one our talented students, Mahmudul Hasan, who has been awarded Winner in the 26th cycle of the prestigious Shah Cement DOT Student Design Award [Volume-09, Issue-04, Category-B] for his visionary project, “টানা‑পোড়েন: A Tale of Local Heritage – Bangladesh Handloom Board Complex.”
The design studio for this project was conducted in Level-5, Term-1 under the guidance of Mohammad Yousuf Iqubal Chowdhury.
This honor underscores what we value most in our School of Architecture: passion.
As his studio design teacher, I witnessed from the very first sketch how Mahmud’s dedication to preserving handloom heritage—and uplifting the lives of loom workers—shone through. His design beautifully weaves together tradition and innovation, transforming brick and courtyard into powerful expressions of community and sustainability.
At the Department of Architecture, Sonargaon University, we believe that true architectural excellence emerges from a deep personal drive to address real-world challenges. Mahmud’s achievement proves that when passion meets purpose, remarkable things happen.
We wish his continuous success in the future professional life through championing the passion that fuels the future of architecture.
