In a society where success is often defined by white-collar jobs, what happens to those who work with their hands? Despite powering the economy, blue-collar workers continue to face stigma that limits opportunities and growth.
In “Beyond White Collar Dreams: The Economic Price of Blue-Collar Stigma in Bangladesh,” Rafia Afroz and Nusrat Jahan Sauda explore how social perceptions around vocational and blue-collar work create economic inefficiencies, skill shortages, and lost potential. As part of their ECO209 Summer’25 video project, they examine why valuing skilled labor is essential for inclusive and sustainable development.
Every year, governments borrow to fund development, but who will bear the cost in the long run? Public debt may solve today’s problems, but its consequences often fall on future generations.
In “Public Debt and Future Generations”, Mahpara Zuhaina and Al Farha Ulfat explore who ultimately carries the burden of public debt in Bangladesh, highlighting how current fiscal decisions can shape economic opportunities for those yet to come. As part of their ECO209 Summer’25 video project, they examine why understanding debt sustainability is crucial for the country’s future.

Orientation of Fall’25 was more than a welcome. It was the final chapter written by the Executive Body of 2025, and we chose to write it with warmth, with laughter, with tradition. Pitha Utshob was not just a theme, it was feeling wrapped in familiarity and joy. The music carried emotion, the dances were lively, and the energy never dipped for a moment. Faculties showed up, not just in presence but in words that mattered.
It was beautiful. It was fun. It was full.
A warm evening for everyone, and a memorable welcome for the next chapter of BUEC. We, the Executive Body, appreciate every single person who showed up on 24th December.

In “Tight Money, Big Moves: How Bangladesh Is Turning Things Around,” Irsa Farhad and Samiha Amin explore how tight monetary and fiscal policies, along with social safety net programs, are being used to slow inflation while ensuring vulnerable groups are not left behind. As part of their ECO209 Summer ’25 video project, they examine whether these measures can strike the right balance between economic stability and social protection.
