Ambassador Sufiur Rahman, Senior Research Fellow at SIPG attended the 3rd Seminar between Chinese and South Asian Governments, Industries, Universities and Research Institutes in Kunming on 10 June 2026.
In his statement, Ambassador Rahmans referred to new options for networking, partnership and cooperation between China, South Asian and countries in the neighbourhood. While noting the depth of China-ASEAN interactions, he underlined the imperative for China to focus more on South Asia- a region with higher population, bigger economy and greater economic potentials.
Given the lacklustre regional processes of SAARC and BIMSTEC, he advised exploring greater engagement between China and South Asian countries. Such cooperation may begin at the sectoral level with networking so that they can become allies, without being part of any alliance.
Ambassador Sufiur Rahman participated in other events of the 10th China-South Asia Exposition from 11-16 June 2026.
