Information About Institute:
History:
The Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) is a constituent Institute approved by the Senate of the University of Dhaka on 27th June 2012. The objectives of the Institute:
i.to offer/provide and promote/facilities for graduate and post-graduate, M Phil, and PhD program and research in the major areas of climate change, disaster m
anagement and vulnerability; women and Children's vulnerability; poverty and vulnerability; trafficking of women and children, and vulnerability of indigenous communities, different sub-cultures and minorities etc. ii.To provide short term Post-graduate Certificate Course in disaster management and Post-graduate diploma program in Disaster Management. iii.To conduct research in the areas of disaster, climate change, poverty, indigenous community, gender, minority, trafficking and vulnerability issues. iv.to facilitate field research and field work for the students of Post-Graduate Diploma, BDM, MDM, M. Phil and PhD on climatic variability, disaster, health, socio-economic and environmental vulnerability; poverty, trafficking of women and children related issues. v.to act as think tank for the government and semi-government organizations, development partners, researchers, and international collaborators on climate change disaster, poverty, environment, trafficking of women and children and vulnerability related development policy, planning and development program. vi.to organize national, regional and international seminars, symposiums, workshops and policy dialogues on climate change, disaster, poverty and vulnerability of indigenous community. vii.to encourage collaborative research among the academics, development practitioners, NGOs, development partners for evolving policies and strategies for the better management of climate change, disasters, poverty, trafficking of women and children and vulnerability of indigenous community. to conduct research on climate change, disaster and vulnerability issues and dissemination of information, which would help in bridging the gap between researchers, development partners and practitioners. ix.to organize action-oriented program and research to address the vulnerability of climate change and disaster affected people at the grassroots level. x.to conduct training program in relevant areas of climate change and disaster, trafficking and poverty for sharing practical knowledge and experiences related to vulnerability of women and children, minority; sub-culture and most disadvantaged groups of climate and disaster affected people. xi.to identify the pressing needs for flood affected families, especially women, disabled, elders, minorities and children. xii.to strengthen academic links, cooperation, and exchanges between universities and research institutes of different countries. to disseminate knowledge and information on relevant issues through conducting research, publication of journal, books, research monograph, study modules, lecture series, report and newsletter etc. to establish and maintain a library and provide information services, electronic resources, web-site, documentation facilities on climate change and disaster, vulnerability and related areas. xv.to facilitates fellowship, scholarship, grants, remuneration, awards and recognition to expedite and ventilate the activities of the Institute. to explore the funds from national and international sources in promoting the Institute's objective, and to accept grants, donations etc. xvii.to construct, maintain, alter, improve and develop related infra-structural development necessary or convenient for the development of the Institute. xvii.to conduct research on the vulnerabilities of indigenous people in the context of social, economic, political, cultural, legal and psychological aspects. xviii. to examine and explore the impacts of climate change and greenhouse effects on the most disadvantaged group of people in developing countries including Bangladesh. to conduct research on the impact of salinity on the livelihoods of coastal people in Bangladesh. xx. to conduct research on the impacts of Sidr, Tsunami, Aila, etc. on the ecology, environment, biodiversity and human society etc. xxi. to assess the livelihoods' resilience of coastal people due to changing ecology, environment and biodiversity due to climate change. xxii.to examine the nature of vulnerabilities of poor, women, children, elders, disables due to the arsenicosis problems. xxiii. to assess the nature of gender dimensions of vulnerabilities due to monga and other disasters. ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের টিএসসি অডিটোরিয়ামে গত ২০ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে ইনস্টিটিউট অব ডিজাস্টার ম্যানেজমেন্ট অ্যান্ড ভালনারেবিলিটি স্টাডিজ-এর বিএসএস ১৩ তম ব্যাচের নবীন বরণ এবং ৭ম ও ৮ম ব্যাচের বিদায় সংবর্ধনা অনুষ্ঠান অত্যন্ত উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতেই আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠান এবং “মির্জা মোহাম্মদ আব্দুল্লাহ ও বেগম বদরুন্নেসা মেমোরিয়াল ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড” এর বৃত্তি প্রদান কর্মসূচি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যেখানে প্রতিবছরের ন্যায় এ বছরও কৃতি শিক্ষার্থীদের মাঝে বৃত্তি প্রদান করা হয়। উল্লেখ্য যে, ২০১৫ সাল থেকে প্রতি বছর উক্ত ফান্ড থেকে স্নাতক (সম্মান)-এ প্রথম স্থান অধিকারীকে চ্যান্সেলর স্বর্ণপদক ও বিভিন্ন বর্ষের মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীদের বৃত্তি প্রদান করা হচ্ছে।
অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সামাজিক বিজ্ঞান অনুষদের ভারপ্রাপ্ত ডিন প্রফেসর ড. তৈয়েবুর রহমান। এছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন IDMVS-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও সাবেক পরিচালক প্রফেসর ড. খোন্দকার মোকাদ্দেম হোসেন, কো-ফাউন্ডার ও সাবেক পরিচালক প্রফেসর ড. মাহবুবা নাসরীন, ইনস্টিটিউটের বর্তমান পরিচালক ড. মোহাম্মদ মনিরুজ্জামান খান, অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজন কমিটির আহ্বায়ক বিভূতি ভূষণ সিকদার এবং “মির্জা মোহাম্মদ আব্দুল্লাহ ও বেগম বদরুন্নেসা মেমোরিয়াল ট্রাস্ট ফান্ড” এর একজন সম্মানিত ট্রাস্টি মাহফুজা করিম। অনুষ্ঠানে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন অত্র ইনস্টিটিউটের সম্মানিত শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকা, শিক্ষার্থী এবং অন্যান্য অতিথিবৃন্দ।
নবীন শিক্ষার্থী এবং বিভিন্ন ব্যাচের শিক্ষার্থীদের মনোমুগ্ধকর সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা অনুষ্ঠানে ভিন্নমাত্রা যোগ করে। পুরো অনুষ্ঠানজুড়ে শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণ, শিক্ষকবৃন্দের উপস্থিতি এবং আন্তরিকতা এক আনন্দঘন ও স্মরণীয় পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করে।
অনুষ্ঠানের শেষ পর্বে ইনস্টিটিউটের পরিচালক ড. মোহাম্মদ মনিরুজ্জামান খান উপস্থিত সকলের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন এবং সফলভাবে অনুষ্ঠানের সমাপ্তি ঘোষণা করেন। এই আয়োজন বিদায়ী শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য ছিল আবেগঘন এক মুহূর্ত এবং নবীনদের জন্য ছিল নতুন পথচলার অনুপ্রেরণাময় সূচনা।

🌊 A landmark day for Bangladesh's disaster and climate resilience community!
On 11 April 2026, the National Seminar on Climate and Disaster Resilience (NSCDR) 2026 was successfully held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka — bringing together academia, practitioners, policymakers, and students under one national platform.
The seminar was graced by distinguished guests, including:
