Agreement of Understanding for Establishing the "NAHFILA MAA Scholarship" Fund.

An agreement of understanding was signed on January 18, 2026, between Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Architect Md. Mahfil Ali, the donor of the “NAHFILA MAA Scholarship” fund, plans to establish a scholarship fund to award two students each year. These students will be selected from the Department of Architecture and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at AUST, alternating semesters.

Prof. Dr. Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, Treasurer and Pro Vice-Chancellor (In-charge) of AUST, signed the MoU on behalf of AUST, while Architect Nusrat Jahan signed the MoU on behalf of the ‘Donor’ Architect Md. Mahfil Ali. Professor Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Vice-Chancellor of AUST; Prof. Dr. Farida Nilufar, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning; Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Matin, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Registrar (In-charge) of AUST; Prof. Dr. G M A Balayet Hossain, Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture; Mr. Abu Hasan from Ingrid Architects; Muhammad Shahidullah, Director of Finance at AUST; and Md. Muniruzzaman, Deputy Registrar of AUST, attended the signing ceremony.

The scholarship aims to support deserving students and encourage academic excellence in Architecture and Engineering at AUST.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. G. M. A. Balayet Hossain has been appointed as Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).

Dr. Hossain has been serving the Department of Architecture at AUST for many years with dedication in teaching, research, and academic leadership. His academic background includes advanced studies and research at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. His work reflects a strong commitment to integrating global knowledge with local context.

His research focuses on climate-responsive architecture, water-centric urbanism, flood-resilient housing, and sustainable settlement design. Among his notable research initiatives is BANVASHI, a prototype of a low-cost flood-responsive housing system developed through applied research and field testing. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his work at national and international academic forums.

As Professor and Head of the Department, Dr. Hossain is expected to play a key role in strengthening academic excellence, research culture, curriculum development, and international collaboration within the Department of Architecture at AUST.

“DYSTOPIAN FUTURE LIVING IN 3000”

Imagine a world we have inherited — a world where the sky no longer shines blue, but bleeds with the smoke of our own making. Once, we walked freely beneath the sun, but now we measure every breath, ration every drop, and barter hope for survival. A dystopian future of a living has imagined and ideas are generated based on the concept board. This is a world in 3000 where people live in enclaves of scarcity, behind walls that protect them from the poisoned air. Children no longer know the taste of rain, nor the scent of flowers. elders tell them stories of forests, of rivers, of stars — like fairy tales from a world that no longer exists. Imagination of this kind of dystopian future where the ideas are explored in design studio V.

আহ্ছানউল্লা বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সাথে নগর উন্নয়ন অধিদপ্তরের সমঝোতা স্মারক সম্পাদন করা হয়েছে বুধবার, ২৭ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৫ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্যাম্পাসে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. মো. আশরাফুল হকের উপস্থিতিতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পক্ষে স্থাপত্য ও পরিকল্পনা অনুষদের ডিন প্রফেসর স্থপতি ড. ফরিদা নিলুফার ও নগর উন্নয়ন অধিদপ্তরের পক্ষে ওই প্রতিষ্ঠানের পরিচালক (অতিরিক্ত সচিব) মো. মাহমুদ আলী সমঝোতা স্মারকে স্বাক্ষর করেন।

এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রো ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. মোহাম্মেদ মাহবুবুর রহমান, ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর ড. শারমিন রেজা চৌধুরী, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আইকিউএসির ডিরেক্টর প্রফেসর ড. মো. সারওয়ার মোর্শেদ, আর্কিটেকচার বিভাগের প্রফেসর ড. শেহজাদ জহির। স্বাক্ষী হিসেবে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পক্ষে স্বাক্ষর করেন আর্কিটেকচার বিভাগের প্রধান স্থপতি এবিএম মাহবুবুল মালিক ও স্থপতি ড. জি এম এ বেলায়েত হোসেন, নগর উন্নয়ন অধিদপ্তরের পক্ষে স্বাক্ষর করেন ওই প্রতিষ্ঠানের সিনিয়র প্ল্যানার উদয় শংকর দাস ও প্ল্যানার জাকিয়া সুলতানা।

We express our deepest condolences for the tragic incident involving Milestone School and College. As a humble gesture of solidarity, the students of the Department of Architecture, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, observed a one-minute silence followed by a heartfelt Dua for the departed souls.
