ইংরেজী vocabulary হলো ইংরেজীতে কথা বলা বা লিখার অন্যতম important tools. আমরা বাংলাভাষীরা ছোট বেলা থেকেই ভূল পদ্ধতিতে ইংরেজী Vocabulary শিখি। আমাদেরকে মূলত translated vocabulary শিখানো হয়, যেমনঃ Banana মানে কলা, Red মানে লাল ইত্যাদি ইত্যাদি। আর English speaking country গুলোতে বাচ্চাদের illustrated vocabulary শিখানো হয়, যেমনঃ Banana বলতে Banana'র একটা ছবি থাকে, Red বুঝাতে Red কালার ব্যবহার করা হয়।

Translated vocabulary এর একটা বড় সমস্যা হলো, translated vocabulary শিখে আমরা যখন ইংরেজীতে কথা বলতে যাই তখন সঠিক সময়ে সঠিক word বলতে গিয়ে আমরা সমস্যায় পড়ি। কারণ আমাদের brain যখন word গুলোকে বাংলা থেকে ইংরেজীতে translation করে তখন বেশ সময় লাগে। তাই ইংরেজীতে কথা বলার সময় আমরা fluently কথা বলতে পারি না।

বাজারে vocabulary'র যত বই পাওয়া যায়, তার মধ্যে বাচ্চাদের wordbook বইগুলোতে ছবি থাকলেও বড়দের vocabulary'র বইগুলোতে তেমন কোন ছবিই থাকে না। তাই আমরা বড়রা ঠিকভাবে vocabulary শিখতে পারি না। এই translated vocabulary আমাদের ইংরেজীতে কথা বলাকে অনেক বেশি কঠিন করে তুলে।

এখানে আমি কিছু illustrated vocabulary দিলাম, এইগুলোর সাথে যেহেতু ছবি আছে, তাই মনে রাখাও তুলনামূলক সহজ।
