The Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka awarded the Shaheed Muktijoddha Nasir Uddin Ahmed Trust Fund scholarships to students from various batches of the BSS and MSS programs today. The daughters of Shaheed Muktijoddha Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Professor Ashequa Irshad from the Department of International Relations, and Professor Rasheda Irshad Nasir, Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Dhaka, graced the occasion and shared heartfelt memories of their father.

Professor Dr. ASM Ali Ashraf, Chair of the Department of International Relations, expressed gratitude to the family of Shaheed Muktijoddha Nasir Uddin Ahmed for their generous contribution and congratulated the scholarship recipients. Convener of the Committee on Management of the Trust Funds and Scholarships of the Department Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Md. Ali Siddiquee, Dr. Saima Ahmed, Student Advisers and other faculty members were also present at the event. The Department extends its best wishes for the bright futures of the scholarship recipients.

The Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka invites students and alumni to participate in a design competition to create the Department’s Nameplate. The nameplate will reflect the identity and values of the department and welcome creative and professional designs that will become a lasting symbol for the department. The design should also embody the history, values, and distinct identity of University of Dhaka and Bangladesh.

The Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka (DUIR) signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). As part of the MoU, UNHCR and DUIR will offer a ‘Certificate Course in International Refugee Law and Protection of Refugees’ for the graduate and advanced undergraduate students.

Dr. ASM Ali Ashraf, Professor and Department Chair of International Relations, and Ms. Juliete Murekeyisoni, Deputy Representative, UNHCR Representation Office in Bangladesh signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions. The event was attended by DUIR faculty members and students.

This collaboration will pave the way for bridging the gaps between theory and practice and contribute to teaching, research and policy advocacy on refugee protection around the world.

The Department of International Relations organized an Academic Orientation for the 18th Batch, 1st Year BSS Honours students. The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan as the Chief Guest, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, and the Proctor Mr. Saifuddin Ahmed. The freshers received valuable suggestions and guidance to embark on a new journey in their academic life.

গবেষণা ক্লাব প্রতিষ্ঠার চিন্তা প্রথম মাথায় আসে ২০১৫ সালে। তখন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্ক বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. মোহাম্মদ তানজীমউদ্দিন খান শিক্ষার্থীদের গবেষণা বিষয়ক কোর্স পড়াচ্ছিলেন। সমসাময়িক আন্তর্জাতিক ঘটনাবলির খুঁটিনাটি বিশ্লেষণ ও গ্রন্থের বাইরে সমসাময়িক বিশ্বের আনাচে-কানাচে দৃষ্টি প্রসারিত করার উদ্যোগ নেয়া হয়। এ লক্ষ্যে ২০১৬ সালে বিভাগের শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের হাত ধরে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় ‘স্টুডেন্টস রিসার্চ ফর লার্নিং’ ক্লাব।

গবেষক তৈরিতে স্টুডেন্টস রিসার্চ ফর লার্নিং যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থার অভাবনীয় উন্নতির ফলে বিংশ শতাব্দীর গোড়া থেকেই আন্তঃরাষ্ট্রীয় সংযোগ বাড়তে থাকে।

আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্ক বিভাগ মাল্টিডিসিপ্লিনারি। যে বিষয়গুলো পড়ানো হয় তা খুবই বিস্তৃত ও বহুমাত্রিকতাসম্পন্ন। এটি দুই ভাগে পড়ানো হয়। ক্রিটিক্যাল ও প্রবলেম সলভিং পারসপেকটিভ। এ বিভাগে পড়ানো বিষয়গুলোয় এই দুই পারসপেকটিভের সমন্বয় থাকে। বৈশ্বিক চাহিদার আলোকে সিলেবাস তৈরি করা হয়। পররাষ্ট্রনীতি, আন্তর্জাতিক নিরাপত্তা, আন্তর্জাতিক সংগঠনের রাজনীতি, ভূ-রাজনীতি, রাজনৈতিক অর্থনীতি, বিশ্ব পরিবেশগত রাজনীতি, উন্নয়নসংক্রান্ত রাজনীতি, গভর্ন্যান্স, ইতিহাস, আন্তর্জাতিক আইন, কূটনীতি—এসব বিষয় গুরুত্ব দিয়ে পড়ানো হয়। জাতিসংঘ স্বীকৃত ভাষাগুলোর মধ্যে ফ্রেঞ্চ ও জাপানিজ ভাষা শেখাও বাধ্যতামূলক।
