Chemical Test For Protein

Biuret Test
•Small amount of food sample is taken into a test tube
•Small amount of water is added is added to dissolve the food component
• small amount of sodium hydroxide and a few drops of copper sulphate solution(biuret solution- blue) to the test tube

*Observation
• if protein is present colour will change into purple/lilac

Glucose test/ Benedict solution test /Reducing sugar test

•Small amount of food sample is taken into a test tube
•Small amount of water is added to the food component to dissolve the foot component
•Small amount of Benedict solution/reagent (copper oxide- Blue)
•Heat the test tube around 60° to 70°C in the water bath

*Observation
•If reducing sugar or glucose is present colour will change into red brick

Today, we engaged in an enlightening activity in the Biology Lab, where students conducted tests for Carbohydrates and Proteins, guided by our esteemed Director, Sir Riyad Ahmed.

Practical experiments are essential for deepening our understanding of theoretical concepts, and they play a crucial role in fulfilling the requirements of the Cambridge Curriculum.

Our primary focus is to uphold the educational standards aligned with this curriculum, and we are making significant strides towards achieving this goal.
