The Institute of Journalism and Communication (IJC) is an innovative venture taken by a group of professional journalists, aiming to provide effective training to young graduates and undergraduates who want to take up journalism as their profession. There is nothing new in the offer of providing journalism education and training in Bangladesh. Most of the country's public universities are already providing honours and master's degrees on journalism. Joined them recently are some private universities. These IJC entrepreneurs also have had journalism degrees from the country's various reputed public universities apart from having their long professional experiences. There is no denying that these universities have been doing a good job in producing good graduates of journalism. And many of them are holding key positions in Bangladesh's prominent media outlets and international news agencies and radio channels. But, time has changed and it is changing faster than we assume. So we need to think of real-time journalism for which you need practical-oriented journalism education, a vital requirement about which the traditional educational institutions are reluctant. As the pace of journalism has accelerated, we need to put the system of its education into the higher gear. These days all journalists need to know how to work across all publishing platforms -- print, online and broadcast. In the course of time, a journalist might be expected to write a blog, film a short video piece for web publication and file an in-depth report for the print media. Indications are there that you need to be versatile. To groom up an ambitious young man as a journalist, training institutions also need to offer innovative, homegrown and effective journalism courses. Keeping that view in mind, the IJC has started its journey to provide imaginative trainings on journalism to help the current journalists and create future media people to fulfill the demand of the fast-changing news industry in Bangladesh and elsewhere in Asia. We want to think big and motivate others to think even bigger. At this globalised age, journalists need to be fast, accurate and confident working in all media outlets. And to provide that knowledge and confidence we are there beside you with creative ideas. You can rest assured you will receive up-to-date skill development training, not only on journalism and photojournalism, but also on public relations and communication.
