In honor of International Mother Language Day, our Secondary School is celebrating a week of language-focused activities.
From sharing meaningful mother-tongue words to exploring languages in print and sound, MS and HS advisory became spaces of connection, identity, and pride. 🌍✨
Every language carries a story — and this week, we’re celebrating them all.
Stay tuned as we come together on Thursday for our Mother Language Day Assembly.

AISD is a not-for-profit, PreK through 12 school, offering the PYP and IB programs, located in Dhaka, Bangladesh serving a diverse community of teachers, parents and students since 1972.
Exploring poems inspired by the season - Grade 6 and 7 Bangla Class celebrating কবিতায় পিঠা উৎসব (Poems & Pitha Festival).
Our students learned simple poetic structures and wrote original poems of their own. Alongside this, they learnt about traditional bengali Pithas. Students also prepared their own pithas and shared them with the rest of the class as part of this rich, cultural experience.

On February 21, we honor Shaheed Dibosh — a day rooted in Bangladesh’s powerful Language Movement of 1952 — and we join the world in recognizing International Mother Language Day.
What began as a fight to protect the Bangla language became a global reminder that language is deeply tied to identity, dignity, and culture. At AISD, where many languages and nationalities come together, this day holds both local and global meaning.
Throughout the following week, our students will participate in activities celebrating linguistic diversity, storytelling, cultural expression, and the power of mother tongue.
We invite our community to reflect:
What language feels like home to you? 🌏
Grade 5 and Secondary Music 2 students came together for a special showcase of original compositions.
Grade 5 students began by selecting a poem, exploring its natural rhythm, and composing a melody. Music 2 students then selected nine of these melodies, applied their knowledge of chord building to harmonize them, and orchestrated accompaniments for chamber ensembles.
The result? A powerful cross-grade collaboration, with students performing side by side on stage to share their original works with families and peers.
