From December 06–08, 2025, 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗠) successfully hosted a three-day Professional Training on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at 𝗕𝗨𝗘𝗧, bringing together industry practitioners to strengthen workplace safety in the construction sector.

The sessions provided participants with in-depth knowledge on hazard identification, risk assessment, OHS regulatory frameworks, PPE selection, contractor safety, and safe operation of construction machinery 🔍📊🦺🚜.

🎤 The program began with a welcome from 𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗸𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗸𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻, Director of CERM, followed by a series of expert sessions led by distinguished resource persons including 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗱. 𝗠𝗮𝗳𝗶𝘇𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗿, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗦𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗱𝗵𝗮 𝗔𝗳𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗼𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘂𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗦𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝘇𝗶𝘇𝘂𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗾 and 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗱. 🛠️🤝 Participants actively engaged in hands-on group exercises, identifying construction hazards, developing OHS plans and specifications, and exploring practical mitigation measures to improve workplace safety. Interactive discussions strengthened understanding of policy, planning, and safety management, preparing participants to apply these practices on real construction projects.

📑 The training concluded with feedback and course evaluation, followed by closing remarks. Participants left equipped with actionable tools, stronger safety awareness, and renewed commitment to safer construction practices 🔧📋.

We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝗘𝗦𝗙) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, organized in collaboration with the World Bank 🎉 Over the course of five informative days, participants gained valuable insights into environmental and social risk management, equipping them with the tools to implement sustainable development practices. 🌱
𝗗𝗿. 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗸𝗵 𝗠𝗼𝗸𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻, the Director of CERM, emphasized the importance of the ESF framework right from the start, setting the tone for a productive and insightful learning experience. 💡
Throughout the training, participants explored critical topics, including 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 ♻️, 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌿, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 🏥, 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🌳, and 𝗌𝗍𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗁𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗋 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 🤝. These sessions were designed to enhance participants' ability to apply ESF standards in real-world projects.
A significant highlight of the program was the 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗛𝗶-𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, where participants saw firsthand how the ESF is applied in real-world projects. 🏗️

Facilitated by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐚, Gender Analyst and Gender Facilitator (World Bank, Bangladesh & Bhutan Office), the training focused on deepening participants’ understanding of gender equality, 𝐒𝐄𝐀/𝐒𝐇 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and the 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐫-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 under the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤’𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 (𝐄𝐒𝐅).

In his opening remarks, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐤𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐤𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐧, Director of CERM, BUET, emphasized the importance of addressing gender and SEA/SH issues in development projects to ensure dignity, respect, and safety for all.

Participants from diverse backgrounds including 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫–𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬, 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, and 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 & 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 joined the sessions with great enthusiasm.

💬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬.
👥 Participants began by pairing up and introducing each other, creating a friendly and open learning environment.
🚶 They then engaged in a “Power Walk” exercise, where each participant played a social role to reflect on real-life inequalities faced by women and men in society.
📚 Sessions covered key gender concepts, national and international legal frameworks, and the connection between gender, ESF, and relevant ESSs (ESS1, ESS2, ESS4, ESS10).

A major highlight of the training was a group case study exercise on developing a Gender Action Plan based on a rural livelihoods project scenario. Participants analyzed gender gaps, proposed practical actions, and developed monitoring indicators effectively turning theory into actionable planning tools.

The two-day program concluded with reflections, evaluation, and certificate distribution. Participants shared that the sessions enhanced their technical understanding and inspired them to become change agents for safer and more inclusive workplaces.

🌍 CERM Hosts Dissemination Workshop to Highlight the Need for Stronger Coordination Between DoE and DIFE

🚧 Centre for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM), BUET organized the Dissemination Workshop on “Addressing Health and Safety Aspects in Development Projects” on 15 October 2025 at BUET, Dhaka.

🤝 The event—held in collaboration with The World Bank under the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) Capacity Building Plan—brought together representatives from DoE, DIFE, ERD and MoL to strengthen institutional coordination for effective Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Community Health and Safety (CHS) governance in Bangladesh.

On 𝗝𝗨𝗟𝗬 𝟱𝗧𝗛, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, CERM successfully concluded the 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗬 for the 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗞𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗙𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗦 at the 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗟 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚, 𝗕𝗨𝗘𝗧, 𝗗𝗛𝗔𝗞𝗔.

The ceremony was graced by 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗥. 𝗔. 𝗕. 𝗠. 𝗕𝗔𝗗𝗥𝗨𝗭𝗭𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗡, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗛 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗛𝗡𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗬 (𝗕𝗨𝗘𝗧), as the 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗙 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧. Alongside him, we had esteemed guests including 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙. 𝗗𝗥. 𝗔𝗕𝗗𝗨𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗕 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗪𝗗𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗬, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of BUET, and 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗥. 𝗠𝗗. 𝗔𝗕𝗗𝗨𝗟 𝗝𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗟, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, BUET, who attended as 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗦. The program was chaired by 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙. 𝗗𝗥. 𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗞𝗛 𝗠𝗢𝗞𝗛𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗥 𝗥𝗔𝗛𝗠𝗔𝗡, Director of CERM, BUET.

The event featured insightful speeches from our distinguished guests, followed by the 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 🎓 to the course participants. The program concluded with a 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞𝗦 by 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗥. 𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗥 𝗔𝗛𝗠𝗘𝗗, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET.
