— Newly Appointed Minister of Religious Affairs

Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad), a prominent parliamentarian, entrepreneur and social worker from Cumilla, has been appointed as the Minister of Religious Affairs in the new government of Bangladesh formed under the current ruling party Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP, where he also sits as Vice-Chairman, alongside newly appointed Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP party Chairman Tarique Rahman.

A well-wisher of Darul Uloom Madani Nagar Madrasah and Mutawalli of Muzaffarul Uloom Madrasah in Cumilla, he brings a wealth of experience to the role.

Born on February 20, 1956, into a respected family of Islamic scholars, Kazi Kaikobad studied up to Sharhe-Jami in Qawmi Madrasah and has been a Member of Parliament for a long time, elected 6 times. He served as State Minister of Religious Affairs in 1990.

His grandfather, Kazi Muzaffar Hussain was a notable Islamic scholar and a student of the renowned Shaykhul-Hind Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, a leading figure in the Indian independence movement and a prominent Islamic scholar of his time. Kazi Muzaffar Hussain was also a teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband, a prestigious Islamic institution in India. This legacy has had a profound impact on Kazi Kaikobad's life and career, shaping his commitment to Islamic education and community service.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs is a crucial position in Bangladesh, and Kazi Kaikobad is expected to play a key role in supporting Mosques and Madrasahs across the country.

Imam and Khatib of Baitul Mukarram the National Mosque of Bangladesh, Shaykh M***i Abdul Malik al-Kumilla حفظه الله, led the Janazah prayers of the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP, Marhumah Begum Khaleda Zia on Wednesday 31 December 2025.

Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday 30 December at the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She was 80 years old. Khaleda Zia was born on 15 August 1945. She is known as the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the second female Prime Minister in the Muslim world.

Khaleda Zia had great respect and admiration for the Ulama of Bangladesh. In most recent times, she called out the Massacre in May 2013 by the fascist autocratic Hasina government (the now banned under anti-terrorism laws) Awami League, through its brutal forces which murdered hundreds and thousands of innocent Muslim scholars and students.

It is reported more than a million people participated in the funeral prayers for Begum Khaleda Zia at the famous Manik Mia Avenue in the capital Dhaka. She was buried at the South Plaza of the Jatiyo Sansad next to her late husband, Lieutenant General Ziaur Rahman, the former President of Bangladesh.

May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her the highest Garden in Jannatul Firdous.
