The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is a crucial indicator for monitoring vegetation health and assessing environmental conditions. I have created an animation showcasing the monthly NDVI of Bangladesh from 2021 to 2024 (up to May). This animation vividly illustrates several key features and patterns:

River Network and Forests: The animation highlights the river network of Bangladesh in blue and the forested areas in dark green. This clear differentiation helps in understanding the distribution and density of vegetation across the country.

Rainy Season Impact: During the rainy season, from June to November, Sylhet experiences significant rainfall, leading to flash floods. These floods can be observed in the NDVI animation as areas with sudden changes in vegetation cover, due to both the influx of water and subsequent vegetation stress or growth.

Coastal Flooding: The animation also shows large amounts of water getting stuck in the coastal areas during the rainy season. This waterlogging affects local communities, as it can disrupt daily life, agriculture, and infrastructure. The NDVI values in these regions may indicate changes in vegetation health, signaling the impact of prolonged water exposure.

Environmental Monitoring: The NDVI animation serves as a valuable tool for environmental monitoring. It helps in identifying trends, assessing the impact of seasonal changes, and planning for disaster management. By analyzing the NDVI data, we can better understand the ecological dynamics and devise strategies to mitigate adverse effects on both the environment and human populations.

The LULC (Dynamic World v1) map for Bangladesh.
This dataset divides the landscape into 9 distinct classes (sq. km): Tree Cover (58,382), Shrub land (8), Grassland (2,421), Cropland (74,053), Built-up (2,457), Bare/sparse vegetation (980), Permanent Water Bodies (12,671), Herbaceous Wetland (2,215).

The night-time light map reveals that Dhaka City and its surrounding areas, including most of the city's corporation zones, are illuminated at night. Additionally, district centers and highway areas are also well-lit.

In contrast, coastal areas, the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and the Haor region of greater Sylhet exhibit minimal light during the night. This variation in light intensity across regions reflects different levels of urbanization and economic activities.

Artificial lighting at night can impact ecosystem growth, yet it is also essential for urban social security. However, excessive artificial light can disrupt natural habitats and affect wildlife behavior. Balancing the need for night-time illumination with sustainable practices is crucial for minimizing ecological impacts while ensuring public safety and urban development.
