Shab-e-Meraj, also known as Al-Isra wal-Miraj, is a Muslim observance that commemorates
servance that commemorates the night journey and ascension of the Prophet Muhammad. The event is said to have taken place on the 27th night of Rajab in the year AD 621.

What happened?

The Prophet Muhammad was woken up by the angel Jibrael. Jibrael led the Prophet on a journey to Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem on the back of the winged horse-like bird Buraq. The Prophet led other prophets in prayer, including Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), and Isa (Jesus).

The Prophet ascended to heaven, where he spoke to God and was given the five daily prayers.

Why is it important?

The event is a test of faith for believers. It highlights the spiritual connection between Islamic holy sites. It is a miraculous occurrence that portrays the power of Allah

Where is it mentioned?

The Quran mentions the event in Surah al-Isra' (chapter 17)

Details of the event are found in the hadith, which are collections of the Prophet's teachings, deeds, and sayings.

On the blessed occasion of Shab-e-Meraj, students had the honour of reciting verses from the Holy Qur'an, including Surahs, to commemorate this spiritually significant event in Islam.
