***Environmental Photo-Story Competition, Bangladesh 2018***
ICCCAD, and Portraits of Change, are excited to announce the inaugural Bangladesh Environment Photo Contest, a joint Australia-Bangladesh venture!
*What’s it about?
The contest theme is positive urban solutions to environment and climate change issues. We want creative solutions - not just technology fixes, but also photo-stories showing our relationship to the environment, that can make us think critically about our role in making change, and that can help create positive environmental behaviour change themselves. Photographs and their stories should be innovative and inspiring.
*What to submit?
Entries must be in the form of a photo-story: one or more photographs, accompanied by text (max 200 words) that shows your own perspective and the deeper ideas behind the photograph.
Note: Photos should not be manipulated beyond simple global adjustments (cropping, contrast, levels, etc)
Participants may also submit an environmental action proposal/idea to accompany their photo-story that can give clear steps for turning the ideas in their photograph into specific environmental action in their own community. This is optional and has an additional prize.
*Who can enter the contest?
-Students (schools or universities) and anyone below the age of 30.
-Must be currently residing in Bangladesh at time of entry.
*When to submit?
Before 11:59 pm, Dec 19th 2018 (TBC)

*Guidelines/Frequently Asked Questions
1) THEME: Current or future solutions to urban environment and climate change issues.
This theme can be interpreted broadly – not just technological solutions, but how we can improve our relationships to the environment, create positive environmental behavior change, etc. Urban focus does not preclude issues such as biodiversity - we want to know how people in urban areas can engage with these issues
WHAT SHOULD I TAKE?
Specific subjects may include (but not limited to) sustainable food production and consumption, waste management, energy, biodiversity, education, advocacy, design for change...
We encourage you to also put yourself in the picture - photographs with people in them can be especially powerful and will be looked on favourably by the judges.
WHAT IS A PHOTO-STORY?
A photo-story is one or more photographs with text that form a coherent visual story. See examples here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bgqoP5PKo8OYOwiKmNn_EbinMXK-5U2k/view
These are examples only – your entries must be original and unique.
Tips on making great photo-stories – see the guide here:

WHAT KIND OF PHOTOGRAPHS?
The photographs should be visually engaging in showing the theme. Direct documentation of environmental activities should be interesting and compelling. Indirect, creative, or metaphorical ways of showing your environmental ideas are also invited.
WHAT KIND OF TEXT?
The photographs need to be accompanied by brief text description. This is an opportunity to share your ideas behind the photographs, rather than simply describing what is going on in the image. The text should be engaging and easy to understand. Think about who’s ‘voice’ you would like to speak from – first person (I), second person (You) or third person (They) or something else entirely? We welcome personal stories - why do YOU care about it?
2) SUBMISSION PROCESS
WHY TWO STEPS?
The first step of tagging your photo makes it easy for anyone to enter and will allow photo-story to be featured during the competition period.
The second step of completing the online entry form will collect essential information about the applicant to ensure their eligibility and for research purposes, as well as the high resolution photo submission of the final photo-stories.
HOW PHOTO-STORIES MANY CAN I ENTER?
You may post as many entries as you like before the deadline by uploading onto social media and tagging. However you can only enter a maximum of 3 photo-stories in the final submission via online form, each photo-story can have 1-3 photographs each.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT IDEA
You can also submit an Environmental Project Idea if you wish to win Prize 5000 BDT. It is an opportunity for you to detail an environmental project that can take the ideas in your photo-story into real action in your community to improve the environment. Please list in as much detail as possible. It is not compulsory.
The project's aims are to inspire environmental action through photography. So please list any environmental actions that you plan on taking in the future as a result of creating your photo-story.
