There are two types of Losses in an Electrical Machine. They are
1. Core Loss or Iron Loss.
2. Ohmic Loss or Copper Loss.
Core Loss is again classified into two types:
1. Hysteresis Loss.
2. Eddy Current Loss.
Eddy current loss= The ohmic losses in a metal body, due to the eddy currents flowing through it, induced by an alternating magnetic field.
Hysteresis loss= The loss in form of heat when magnetisation of the material is made to alternate with respect to time.

Why Transformers Are Rated In KVA?
From the above transformer tests, it can be seen that Cu loss of a transformer depends on current, and iron loss depends on voltage. Thus, total transformer loss depends on volt-ampere (VA). It does not depend on the phase angle between voltage and current, i.e. transformer loss is independent of load power factor. This is the reason that transformers are rated in kVA.

What Is Skin Effect?
When an Alternating Current flows through aconductor, it is not distributed uniformly throughout the conductor cross-section. AC current has a tendency to concentrate near the surface of the conductor. This phenomenon in alternating currents is called as the skin effect. Due to the skin effect, current is concentrated between the outer surface of the conductor and a level called as the skin depth (skin depth is shown by ẟ in the following figure). If the frequency of AC current is very high, the current is restricted to a very thin layer near the conductor surface. Skin effect increases with increase in the frequency.
Due to skin effect, the effective cross-section of the conductor through which the current flows is reduced. Consequently, the effective resistance of the conductor is slightly increased.

Implanted Nanotubes Monitor for Cancer
Implantable nanotubes able to continuously monitor for cancer could offer earlier detection—and earlier treatment.
The nanosensor technology, developed by a team at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, relies on tiny, implantable sensors that are made up of carbon nanotubes. The sensors would be implanted under the skin, where they will emit and absorb infrared light in order to detect and monitor disease biomarkers, such as tumor growth. The information from the implants could be analyzed by a small wrist-worn device, allowing the wearer to continually monitor their health like “a kind of fitness tracker for disease.”
