On 17 August 2026, BRTC launched Dhaka’s “Pink Bus Service,” an all-women-operated fleet of 14 buses, with 10 serving the city and 4 connecting Dhaka with Bogura and Chittagong. Extending the idea of safe and inclusive transit already familiar from the Metro Rail’s women’s compartment to road transport, the initiative highlights how transportation systems can be designed to address the needs of diverse groups within society.

From an engineering perspective, this is a reminder that our work goes beyond structural calculations and pavement design. Engineers also design systems that respond to how different communities actually use infrastructure, through disaggregated demand modeling, thoughtful route planning, and data-driven decisions. Initiatives like the Pink Bus Service can provide valuable ridership data and help shape a more inclusive, efficient, and responsive transportation network as Dhaka continues to grow.

The session provided participants with practical insights into transforming a thesis into a meaningful scientific publication from identifying a research gap and establishing novelty to developing methodology, extracting results, and presenting findings effectively.

One of the key takeaways was the question,“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵?” Participants were encouraged to critically evaluate the contribution of their work and understand why their proposed approach is relevant to the research community.

The session also covered the essential elements of a strong thesis and research article, including the title, introduction, objectives, methodology, experimental program, data acquisition, research significance, results, and discussion. Practical examples highlighted the importance of concise academic writing, clear figures, and effective explanation of results. An ASCE research article was also discussed to demonstrate how research can be communicated clearly within the concise format of a journal paper.

The webinar concluded with an engaging 𝗤&𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, covering topics such as when undergraduate students should begin research, experimental versus numerical approaches, progressing from conference papers to journals, and the role of publications in pursuing higher studies and funded opportunities abroad.

We sincerely appreciate Sir for sharing his expertise and valuable experience with the participants. The session offered meaningful guidance for students taking their first steps into research and scientific writing.

The ASCE Student Chapter, MIST successfully hosted its Orientation Program for the 2026–2027 Session at the Shahid Yeamin Auditorium. The event marked an inspiring beginning, filled with enthusiasm, clear vision, and high energy for the journey ahead. We were deeply honored by the presence and invaluable insights of our esteemed faculty leaders, who provided a strong roadmap for our upcoming session.
Our Respected Faculty Advisor for the ASCE Student Chapter,𝗟𝘁. 𝗖𝗼𝗹. 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗸𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗣𝗵𝗗, 𝗣𝗘𝗻𝗴, 𝗖𝗘𝗻𝗴, captivated the audience by sharing profound lessons from his vast academia and industry experience. He walked us through his own remarkable journey, offering our members practical advice and inspiration on what it truly takes to become a successful civil engineering professional.
Adding to the session's valuable insights, Faculty Co-Advisor and Former ASCE Student President, Lecturer 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮, shared his inspiring, full-circle journey. He spoke about his transition from leading as Student President to navigating his professional career as a faculty member, highlighting exactly how his active ASCE membership laid the foundation for his current professional success.
