WaterAid Bangladesh joined hands with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) to promote Rainwater Harvesting under a project titled ‘Greening ULAB’ of the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD).

WaterAid’s Country Representative Dr Md Khairul Islam and Professor Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of ULAB signed the MoU on behalf of their organisations. Hasin Jahan, Director- Programmes of WaterAid and Dr Hamidul Huq, Director-CSD of ULAB and others were present at that time.

CSD is a research centre motivated by social responsibilities, moral concerns, socio-environmental challenges to provide present and future generations with relevant knowledge and expertise for a better citizenship. WaterAid is enthusiastic to work with ULAB in coming days through establishing a demonstration plant there and a rain-centre as well.

The MoU was signed between both the parties at ULAB's Dhanmondi campus on 21 July 2014, initially for three year with a possibility of further extension.

WaterAid Bangladesh organised an international training on Urban Rainwater Harvesting System in collaboration with Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India at Brac CDM, Savar, Dhaka held on 17-19 June, 2014. A total of 28 participants attended in this training course from different corners e.g, GoB representatives, university professionals from different disciplines, NGO activist as well as WASH service providers from WASA and City Corporation.

Call for Paper!!

On the backdrop of WaterAid Bangladesh’s unrelenting venture on promoting rainwater harvesting for attaining a sustainable solution of the alarming water crisis. A Conference will be held during '2nd Rainwater Convention' on 15 June 2014 to explore different ideas, research findings, technological options and experiences; inline collaboration with CSE-India, RAiN Forum and ITN-BUET.

You will be delighted to know that WAB solicits paper from interested participants appertain to the following broad thematic areas:
• Best practices in different hydro-geological context focusing reuse and recharge of rainwater
• Challenges of rainwater harvesting in urban areas, coastal belts, drought prone and hilly areas
• Rainwater harvesting and arsenic calamity
• Legal framework, policy, strategy and challenges related to rainwater harvesting
• Indigenous knowledge on rainwater harvesting
• Rainwater harvesting’s role in integrated water resources management
• Potential technological options, costing, limitation and availability
• Rainwater and quality measurement issues in different geo-locations

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 10 April 2014 and for full paper is 15 May 2014.

Interested participants can submit abstract/s on multiple thematic areas. Those have interest to present papers on the conference are requested to submit their abstract online through the website limiting 1000 characters. The abstract must entail the information [i.e. paper title, names of the author(s), the complete postal address, email addresses and corresponding author]. Author/s will be notified by email on the acceptance of his/her/their abstract(s).
