My AMC Part 1 Journey 🇦🇺 Feedback by passed student

I have successfully passed the AMC CAT MCQ (Part 1) examination. 🇦🇺🩺

The preparation journey was definitely not easy for me. It required consistency, patience, and a lot of revision.

Throughout my preparation, the guidance and mentorship I received from Dr. Shahriar and Shahriar’s Medical Academy (SMA) helped me stay focused and structured.

Here, I’d like to share my personal preparation journey....

📚 Preparation

My overall preparation time was around 1.5 years, but I put my maximum effort into AMC during the last 6 months.

📖 Resources

Theory:

- John Murtagh

- Kaplan Psychiatry

- Kaplan Surgery

- Kaplan Paediatrics

- SMA notes for Gynaecology

- High-yield topics from SMA notes, including screening, driving, fundoscopy, cardiovascular assessment, ECG, and radiology

- AMC Handbook — I read it once or twice.

- 100 case of ethics

Personally, I found these resources more than enough for my AMC preparation.

For screening and some updated management-related topics, I mainly followed RACGP guidelines. I also followed therapeutic guildline.

📝 Question Banks

Initially, I focused on AMeDEx.

During the last 3 months, I also subscribed to eMedici and solved around 1,500–2,000 questions.

🔥 Most Important Part — RECALLS

I completed the last 3 years of recalls and repeatedly revisited the more recent recalls, especially those from February to June, along with reviewing the relevant topics.

For me, recalls were truly a game changer.

In the actual exam, I felt that around 50–60% of the questions were familiar to me in some way.

🤝 Study Partner

Another thing I would strongly recommend is having a good study partner.

AMC questions can be tricky, but if your basic theory is clear and you regularly discuss recalls with your study partner, you can identify your weak areas very quickly.

I personally found the last 2–3 months to be the most important. Focus on recalls, discuss them with your study partner, identify your weak areas, and revise them.
