🇦🇺 IMPORTANT AUSTRALIA STUDENT VISA UPDATE | 2026
Australia is introducing major changes to the rules for international students bringing family members.
What’s changing?
Under the announced reforms, most new international students will no longer be able to automatically bring their spouse/partner or dependent children to Australia as accompanying family members.
However, important exceptions will apply, including:
🎓 Certain PhD students
🌏 Students from Pacific and ASEAN countries
👨👩👧 Families who are already in Australia with their visa arrangements are not being separated under the announced changes.
The Australian Government has also announced tighter measures around: • Student visa family arrangements
• Switching between visa types
• Course/visa progression
• Compliance with visa conditions
🇦🇺 What does this mean for prospective students?
If you are planning to study in Australia with your spouse or children, your course level, nationality, visa type and timing of application will become increasingly important.
