Throughout history the success of nations has been based on their people’s ability and aptitude for leadership and innovation. In modern day innovation continues to be the mechanism by which to build societies and organizations. For example, MicroSoft’s success has arisen out of its development of a user friendly platform for the personal computer. Research in Motion built an international business and has dominated the corporate cell phone market because of its innovative solution to protect the transmission and storage of data. Innovation can only be translated into practice by the aptitude of the leaders who translate the innovative ideas into action and plans that can transform the innovation into a reality on the ground supporting the development of the societies and communities. Innovation is about doing something better (cheaper, quicker, stronger, faster, farther, more effectively, etc.) than the way it is presently being done. Ultimately, in the business, military and even political arena it is about the ability to outperform the competition. With innovation come spin-off benefits that include: improved quality of life, better safety, job creation, development of manufacturing, increased export and an overall improvement in national economy. LIFE aims at creating a centre for Innovation and Leadership that will give institutional architecture to the concept and continue to implementing the concepts through educating promising leaders and innovators utilizing state of the art teaching methods. The aim of the Institute is to provide courses that are ‘Job Oriented’ where undergrads, budding and ambitious professionals, Middle Management and Senior Management, both from the Public Sector and the Private Sector can sharpen and enhance their professional and management skills, not only to further their careers but also add value to their organizations’ skills that would help them become more efficient and competitive and grow profitably. To that goal, this project will empower people with appropriate knowledge and competence through the use of technology and innovative methods, training teachers to international standards, and to develop the collaborative approach towards teaching and learning.
