🎓 24th Asian Bioethics Conference Successfully Hosted at SUB 🎓

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) proudly hosted the 24th Asian Bioethics Conference from 5–7 February 2026, bringing together national and international scholars, policymakers, and experts to discuss the theme “Bioethics in Building Nation-States.”

Professor Dr. Md. Anower Hussain, Chairman of the Department of Public Health at State University of Bangladesh, attended a virtual talk show jointly organized by the Bangladesh Anti-To***co Alliance (BATA) and Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust on Sunday (28 December) at 11:30 AM. The talk show was titled:
“Rising To***co Aggression Due to Corporate Interference and Legal Gaps: Public Health at Risk.”

During the discussion, public health experts and representatives of anti-to***co organizations issued an urgent appeal to the Interim Government to immediately publish the gazette notification and ensure effective implementation of the Smoking and To***co Products Use (Control) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

While congratulating the Interim Government for approving the ordinance, Dr. Anowar Hussain and other discussants described it as a significant milestone in to***co control. They welcomed key provisions, including:
• A ban on smoking and the use of to***co products in public places and public transport
• A complete prohibition on to***co advertising, promotion, and display
• Increasing health warning coverage on to***co packaging to 75%
• Inclusion of new products, such as ni****ne pouches, within the definition of to***co products
